Since the federal government took over education we have become a nation of idiots, no child left behind, and common core, sets the bar very low. Training children to memorize information (fed the "facts") and abandon critical thinking and just do as they are told. It is glorified and expensive dog training... :(

Nice speech, but if the youth speaker wants to be an attorney someday, he is going to have to work on his vocabulary skills. Litigators have to speak professionally if they want to get the upper hand in an argument.

Is anyone here aware of the sheer NUMBER of these initiatives aimed at helping young black men launched since the early 90's???? They come and go with a a lot of applause and back-patting along the way, but here were are in 2014 with many of the same problems faced then. This is the wrong approach.

Meanwhile Obama pushes amnesty which will inevitably take jobs away from blacks. People enter our country illegally and get rewarded with citizenship yet blacks faced 100's of years of oppression before they were given equal citizenship. If I was a black guy I'd be pissed!

What's wrong with Obama helping out the Black men? I'm ashamed of all this world has become. No offense, but Caucasian's are basically sore losers since the beginning of time. You have to make sure every single race doesn't come up except your own. Nowadays they're basically killing our youth for no reason. Our job percentage rate is so low because you guys take a look at us and are scared thinking we don't deserve it. Teachers don't even encourage young children anymore if they think they can't do it. What does that matter though? Your job is to encourage. People get inside a young black males mind and say over and over and OVER again they can't do it. As a human being you start to believe it and you give up. In Early Childhood we encourage diversity in every classroom so little kids can "see themselves" on a book cover. As they get older Young black women and Men don't see themselves anywhere basically. I'm proud to say I'm a young black female and graduated from high school and college with honors at 22 (I did dual enrollment in high school to go to college at the same time.) Unfortunately, not many of my colored friends were granted the same opportunity. I don't look down upon my friends because they're black and not like me or because they're white. WE WALK THE SAME EARTH. BREATH THE SAME AIR. This world changes the average mind, when someone makes it they look down upon people like they're so much better when realistically the rich cries more than the poor. I feel sorry for some when you have to answer to the Lord at those Beautiful Heavenly Gates.

Well if they're are so ''concerned'' about absent fathers WHY don't the government reform the Family Laws, and stop disregarding a fathers presence in a child's life. Woman get all the support in the world, but fathers who want to be there for their kids are failed and treated so harshly but the court system, it's demoralising for fathers... Cause how is it, that a man is forced to pay half of daycare, half of medical expenses, food, clothes, water etc, but the same man that laid down to create the child is not automatically given half the time? Something about that situation doesn't seem right to me! And until that is addressed we won't be able to change the lives of so many fatherless children, who grow up in dysfunctional families due to fathers not being allowed adequate time to build a proper relationship with their children!
