DO NOT TURN THE UNIT OFF AND ON TO GET COLD AIR TO BLOW. It will possibly cause more problems. Turn it off and have a tech look at it. In the mean time use fans to cool down your home.
Ours used to do that. I am not tech savvy with this kind of stuff thats why im here but whenever ours started blowing warm/hot air we went outside and check the outside unit. Our pipes were frozen. So we turned the ac off. After a few hours we checked the outside pipes again, they apparently thawed out and cold air started blowing again BUT the pipes will refreeze and warm air will start blowing . If I can remember correctly we was told there may be a leak in the system therefore the freon/refrigerant was low.

No need for belittling just because you don't agree. It does not make you look smarter only like a person giving insults. This has been my experience out here over ten years hard labor in my area with even newly installed air conditioners that they often need a hard start kit. I have had numerous condensers that three days or so after the brand new install unit compressors sit and hums overheating but not starting. Added the hard start kit and no more problems. Period. I am in building maintenance so if the unit goes down I get the call back on each system. This gives me a unique proving and testing experience over time. I do not charge anyone for parts, refrigerant, or labor. my position being a bit different than traditional HVAC guys. I have seen the hard start ease stress on start up and help premature burn out of components. This has been my experience.
I've watched a bunch of your videos and have refrained from making a
comment up til now. You my friend have no ideal what you are doing. You
never tested anything and your fix was to add a hardstart. My guess is it
was easier to add the hard start then carry it off the roof. On a good note
though as long as there is guys out there like you, there will always be
work out there for guys that know what they are doing.
+KungFuMaintenance But I just don't understand how that justifies the need for a hard start kit..... Especially a new install! Assuming the install isn't a hack job than you should check your charge with superheat and subcooling. Always do it the right way because cutting corners just turns around and bites you in the ass. Also not shown in the video but if the compressor doesn't start but is hot than it may be on an overload. Cool the compressor off with some water, evaporative cooling does the trick ;) I've seen units have issues having a hard start kit when it doesn't need it, just letting you know. Always check the amperage of the compressor when deciding to do so. Initial start up amps and running amps. If there's a problem unit than record your "normal readings" on the inside of your data plate in sharpie so you know later.
+talyn875 To make this clearer. The old ones were 2 ton 10 SEER Coil and 2 ton 10 SEER Condensor. The new ones are 2 ton 13 SEER Coil and 2 ton 13 SEER Condensor. Been working good for three years and now has been three days since adding the hard start kit. Today was about 108 degrees outside and right now is about 95 degrees outside. For sure I would have been called back if there was any problem (and/or will be if there is any future trouble Lol but I am confident all is well there).
+KungFuMaintenance perhaps the mismatch is causing the evaporator to flood putting stress on the compressor. It's hard to charge when you have a small 10 SEER coil.
+talyn875 I don't mind. Enjoy the conversation actually. This one was I believe about three years old. I had the coil replaced at the same time. Both 2 ton units. (2 ton coil and 2 ton condenser) Matching the old condensor and coil size. The old ones were ten SEER and the new ones thirteen SEER. My air handlers are First Co. evaporator coils use capillary tubes (fixed orifice) no TXV having hydronic heating coils (on Raypac boiler systems) above the air handler. Most of my units are 2.5 ton condensers and coils but this one and some others are two ton systems.
+Jim Rodriguez At that point I was just thinking out loud a bit while evaluating the system. Not really making a definitive statement there just getting going.

+Billy Knoth It's not just you. I was just thinking out loud a bit while evaluating the system. Not really making a definitive statement there just getting started. Lol.
+T&N Services LLC. I am convinced it would not be very easy to impress you. I have enjoyed quite a few of your videos. Anyway. You might check me vid " How To Save A Hummingbirds Life" I do make more than just AC vids.
+Mike Powlas Goodman has a good name already. Their products stand on their own merits and longevity. Just look how many Janitrols are still around. I have had numerous condensers not just Goodmans in my area that three days or so after the brand new install unit compressors sit and hums overheating but not starting. Reviewing this one further it is possible on this one that it was just a Southern Ca energy savings event turn off though when I arrived the light was solid green no blinking indicating that it was not an event according to the box. As far as adding the hard start kit it has been my experience out here over ten years in my area with even newly installed air conditioners that they often need a hard start kit. I have had many condensers that shortly after the brand new install unit compressors sit and hums overheating but not starting and I get the call out. Added the hard start kit and no more problems. Period. I am in building maintenance so if the unit goes down I get the return call back on each system. This gives me a unique proving and testing experience over time. I do not charge anyone for parts, refrigerant, or labor. my position being a bit different than traditional HVAC guys. I have seen the hard start ease stress on start up and help premature burn out of components. This has been my experience. The units that sit and hum not starting takes a toll on everything the contactor capacitor compressor breaker all experiencing the heat and stress of trying harder to get going during that initial start up draw.
Real quick, you yourself +KungFuMaintenance said the indoor unit was not on.... If you push the Contactor and the unit runs and you feel the line... How can you assume it might possibly be low on refrigerant? The blower not running would affect the pressures and line temp. ...
+Rob HVAC good man Rob. Let's do this thing the right way. +KungFuMaintenance check out the guys in this thread. They have a lot of knowledge to share if you want it.
+KungFuMaintenance if you want to learn the right way to do things join in the conversation. Maybe you never had a good teacher to show you the right way to do things.
I don't understand..."I noticed that this unit does not have a hard start ... Luckly I brought one..." is that an up sell on every job? A company I know if a contactor fails.. U need a hard start and that is an extra like $350... It pissed me off to see it in action!
