Thank you for posting this helpful video and I am sorry my previous comment
is a bit wordy. Anyways, I was wondering how to extract different numbers
of characters in Vlookup using the left, mid and right functions when I
want to extract different numbers of characters? So if you have posted a
video where you explain how to extract different numbers of characters at
once using vlookup, hlookup and then inserting left , right and mid
functions, please provide the link. Thank you.
Wow, this was really helpful, thanks a ton. However, I was wondering how to
extract different numbers of characters in Vlookup using the left, mid and
right functions? In this one you are extracting only 5 characters but I
believe you might have posted a video where you explain how to extract in
Vlookup and Hlookup specisic numbers of characters using left, mid and
right? If yes please let me know their trick numbers. Thank you.

...i'm not a fan - the problem here is identifying errors. if i'm joining
using ="a2"&"b2", then i want to find an error; i'd write the formula in
such a way that it does return an error - again, i think the limit of these
videos is that your substrate data is regular - often, there are errors
like a floating initial or something. and this flash fill stuff does not
seem to point these errors out or have a way to display error 2 hypothesis
problems. i'm not a fan.
This is good, but, user needs to be a bit careful with string manipulations
if the reference cells are not of exact same pattern: 1. If there are
strings (Name) with varying number of words. 2. If your manipulated work
has got alphabet from the reference strings (Name) col1 col2 (With flash
fill) col3 (With flash fill) Dev Sin Raw Sin Dev good boy Rav Raw BLANK Rav
goor boy
Mike, do you find that Excel 2013 is much slower than 2010 in terms of
calculating and editing long formulas? My computer is really new, so I
don't think that's the issue, however its pretty frustrating waiting for
long rows and columns of formulas to roll over in the cells before it moves
on. Might have to send microsoft a frown for that one!!
Yes, krn14242, as you of course know, I have been nominated a few times
over the last few years, but Microsoft always said no. No matter, since
Excel is so much fun, I will keep making the videos!! Thank you for your
kind support! You are welcome for the videos and Excel fun.
This is AMAZING!! I can remember a few years ago at a job I had we needed
to do things like this and we had to do it by hand because we couldn't
figure out how to do it via formulas (we weren't that advanced).
Of course it depends on how critical. As an innate formula guy, I naturally
tend toward formulas, but as Flash Fill evolves, we will just have to see
how reliable it is. Good points, anthonyfoxtrott !!
Mike, Microsoft is crazy for not making you a MVP. Look at all the free
promotion you give them. You are a MVP in my opinion. Thanks for the
continued support and making Excel fun.
Mike, Microsoft should give a prize for you, first-line content and also
send files to practice. Thank you. Sao Paulo, Brazil .. I used the
translation, see if you understand now.
I just talked with Noelle Sophy at Microsoft and she hinted that future
versions of Excel may have a "dynamic" version of Flash Fill! If that
happens it will just be amazing!!!!
You are the BEST!! You dont know how many times I use your videos to help
me come up with better ways to analyze and creatively report my work.
Please keep it up!
Mike, a Microsoft deveria dar um prêmio para você, conteúdo de primeira
linha e ainda enviar os arquivos para praticarmos. Muito Obrigado. São
Paulo, Brasil..

Hi Mike, I have learned a lot from your videos for a while now so thanks! I
work with excel quite a bit and use a built in "corporate" function when
index matching which can interpolate to find exact values in tables. For
example to look up a value corresponding to 2.5 from an integer list it
will use index to look up the values from a list but with the match
actually finding the value between rows 2 and 3 by interpolating. Do you
know of a way to do this using standard excel functions?
{=INDEX(B37:B40,match(A43,A37:A40)+NOT(OR(A43=A37:A40)))} in dutch:
{=INDEX(B37:B40;VERGELIJKEN(A43;A37:A40)+NIET(OF(A43=A37:A40)))} seems to
work also. greetings from the netherlands
