The song “Flying For Me” by John Denver was written for Christa McAuliffe, whose life was cut short when the Space Shuttle Challenger crashed on January 28, ...
It's been 30 years ago today. Thank you John for this beautiful song. I
hope you have a spectacular view from the Heavens and that you are
surrounded by love.
John Denver sings High Flight
On a NASA tribute show, John Denver sings High Flight after joshing with Bob Hope a bit during the intro. High Flight is a poem written by John Gillespie Magee.
Like John Denver but some things are best left alone like an immortal poem.
Song started out OK but adding the chorus to it, really! That's when I
passed on it.
I didn't hear what kind of airplane that was. Could you please advise?
The pilot surely loves to blast those jets. I thought he was going to
takeoff there at the beginning of the safety demonstration. You'd think
United airlines would have had their engines working well before they even
left the gate. They certainly could do a better job. That's why I don't
fly them.
+Heather stubbs I don't remember which plane it was. It was a small commuter jet. An Embraer 145 sounds like a good guess.
John Denver/Flying For Me
a song by John Denver, in memory of the Challenger crew Well I guess that you probably know by now I was one who wanted to fly I wanted to ride on that arrow ...
i hope john denver had the same thoughts of our military pilots who went
down in flames flying for freedom and democracy from ww 1 to the present .
RIP airman and airwomen of America !
+William Murray John's dad was Lt. Col. Henry John Deutschendorf who still holds three world air-speed records and who flew B-58's. He taught John to fly. So we know he had great respect for all military pilots, particularly those who've been lost. John was partly responsible for starting the "Citizens in Space" program, and was one of the finalists though he wasn't chosen. He received the NASA Public Service Medal which is almost always given to NASA engineers and designers. . . I can't even imagine how much his heart was broken that day when the Challenger disintegrated right before our eyes! So this song meant more to him than we'll ever know because these people were also his friends. And Thank You ~ for the reminder for us to always remember all of those brave souls who've been lost and made the ultimate sacrifice. May they RIP.
+William Murray, it reminds me of Nathan Hale. He said: "I regret that I have only one life to give to my country." Denver captured that spirit so beautifully with this powerful ballad. In many ways, it was his very own swan song. He and RCA went their separate ways, and it was never the same again.
Alaska Airlines flight diverted to Denver after disturbance
2.9,2016 Denver7 at 10 p.m. Molly Hendrickson reports on a disturbance that resulted in Alaska Airlines Flight 769 landing at Denver International Airport.
They should have duct taped him up and leave him in the seat so everyone
can get to their destination.
This needs to be standard policy. They keep letting one idiot screw up
everyone on the flight's travel plans.

This is so beautiful - I'm crying again, so beautiful. His voice the purest
of pure... Effortless, as God intended. "I put out my hand and touch the
Face of God". And he means every word he sings - and so do I. Most
beautiful lyrics and melody. I will fly again tonight. Thank you John, for
taking us with you. Always your biggest fan (in the whole universe)! xxx

+ThePinkFloydPortal She was in no competition with Michelle Phillips at some non-existent beauty pageant. They were bandmates. They sang together and complemented each other vocally. It should be all about the music.
This lady could sing with literally anyone, in any style, and always blend
in beautifully. She performed back in the day when to be a successful
(especially female) singer, you actually had to be a great singer, not just
pole-dance and lip-synch to some hypersexualized lyrics.
My kids hate this song SO MUCH! for the sheer fact that when they were
small and they played me up and didn't do as they were told I'd quietly
start singling this song...
It always worked, and they soon got back into line, they all berate me now
with laughter !! But it was my way, I had my ways lol That and the
Goooolywallabird kept a firm handle on things in my house!
Scary monster mutherfucker that lived at the bottom of my garden, he ate
small children if they were out after their Mummy told them to get inside
for bath and bed time !!!
Hahahahaha;)))
Kids aye!! Adore'e
Chezzzzy xxx
Nooo sweets!!! lol .... I do admit to being rather eccentric and unorthodox in my methods as a Mother, but what I did was highly memorable with my children in a good way, they still talk widely of my madcap moments and zany ass tactics xD... LOL...happy memories with their fruicake Muzzer!! hahaha +GlowingBentley SOME of us are bad enough WITHOUT mushroomzzz he he he x
An amazing video and yet I find it hard to watch. The world loved them both
so much, and now they're both gone. Why do we always loose the greats way
too early? Sad.
John Denver is right up there with Elvis as a true American icon..but John
was (and is) genuine, sweet, caring and as real as the nature he delves
into with his poetry. He is not just American; he is German-American and I
believe he far surpasses that ignorant stereotype of German Americans being
hateful Nazi cops harassing minorities...there are all types in any
ethnicity, people...John Denver is about as opposite of what the media
paint German Americans as could be...(I am not German-American, i am
Italian-American and that is a whole other issue...lol...I grew up around a
lot of "white" americans of German descent and it gets me upset how they
are the scapegoat for everyone due to certain aspects of history...
But, unlike other nations that fell from grace, germany went so low, there must be something in their mindset or DNA that it cannot be overlooked.and sometimes going too far to the pc left ends up to the tyrant right.Related note... It's something that Jim Morrison and others from the Laural Canyon gang (the precursor freaks or hippies) had fathers who were influential in the military.
John Denver Flying For Me(with introduction)
The video for John's song "Flying For Me" with an introduction from John. No copyright infringement intended. Purely for the enjoyment of John's fans.
From 1986 onward, John always played this video on large screens behind him
on stage whenever he sang this song; and there was never a dry eye. As he
often said, NASA opened their vaults with reel after reel of footage so he
could make this video; I believe they were quite proud of the final result.
He says "And I prayed that I'd find an answer there, or maybe I would find
a song" I can only imagine what that song might have been; but I believe
one day we will hear it, and what a joy that will be. Till then we have the
words and music; which he left us, and the earthly joy they bring.
I remember when I saw him in Des Moines, he played the videos behind him
for this song as well as Matthew and Calypso when he sang. How I miss
seeing him in concert! You're right, I believe NASA was quite impressed and
proud of this song and video.
@pnf4343 The title of the song is listed before John's introduction and
that is the name of the song playing during the video...I had seen this
before years ago. Is there a different video that I might not have seen?
Almost 30 years on, I still get a tear in my eye from this: Saw JD perform
this at Fiddler's Green, summer of '86, and no, there wasn't a dry eye to
be seen! We will do this at next years High Plains JDFest!
Honestly, I feel like an idiot - but when I clicked on it before, I got
part of the Nature special - This time I got Flying for me - So sorry -
Thank you for adding more.
@peaceniq You're so welcome! Makes me smile to see such great comments and
know there are others out there that still love him as much as I always
have and still do! :)
