He was a Vietnam War vet who lost his legs in the War, and came back and joined the anti-war movement of the 60s and 70s, as most GIs did back then. He later published a memoir Born On The Fourth Of July, which became a film starring Tom Cruise in 1989. That was my favorite part of the presentation, next to the little tribute they pulled up from her father, Henry Fonda, back when he won the Lifetime Achievement Award.
