Who honestly gives a shit about some random lion getting shot? I understand
it upsets you in principle, but there are so many issues of more important
precedence regarding animal rights or people's standard of living in
Zimbabwe where it happened. There are only so many battles you have the
energy and time to fight and this was not one of them that was worth it and
is just the social media faux sjw flavor of the month.
+navalverde12 It matters because the larger issues are made up by the smaller ones. Animal rights as a whole is made up of hundreds of thousands of smaller situations that DO matter to us. What will happen if this dentist is brought to justice? Other people will then see that flying to Africa to take advantage of their poor economic situation just so you can get your rocks off by killing an innocent animal. How can you sit back and say it won't effect any change? I'm assuming you're not a clairvoyant. Like I said in this video, people should remain outraged by this Cecil The Lion shit and spread their outrage across the board to other animals who are being tortured and murdered daily. This is not just about Africa, but I agree with you that it would be nice for people to also investigate why this happens so much in these parts of the world. But for all we know they have done this research and that's why they're so outraged by this wealthy asshole who, most likely, doesn't give two shits about the people of Zimbabwe but threw his money at them anyway for his own selfish reasons. Who are you to tell people what they should be working towards instead of respect for animals and nature? And people really need to stop tying to deflect this to other social issues. They are not the same. People are allowed to be outraged by multiple issues. I have been an advocate for animals rights since 1995. I am also an advocate of gay rights, women's rights, cultural respect and many other things. The problem is people never want to focus on any one thing. Any time an issue comes up they want to bring up a different one. "Well, yeah, what happened to Mike Brown is bad, but what about nuclear war?" Just stop it...
+Myke C-Town I don't see how me trying to deflect people's attention to other issues matters for this particular instance or is similar to the analogy you described. What I was trying to say and poorly articulated is that it's ridiculous people have actually mobilized and are picketing outside a dentist's office like it's a witch hunt. What is going to happen if they get what they want? This guy does some time or is fined? And then what? It's so insignificant and won't effect any change. This situation won't be treated the same as say Eric Garner where championing for his justice brought about greater awareness and progress (or so I hope) to a problem plaguing society. It bothers me that people will go through the trouble of camping outside some dentist's office with obnoxious signs that say "rot in hell"; yet don't seem to reflect and ask themselves why this happened? Why is there a huge game hunting tourism industry in Africa? What are the economic factors contributing to this? Why are people so desperate in Zimbabwe that they resort to poaching? Why is there mass deforestation shrinking animal habitats in Zimbabwe and what can we do about it? Those are the problems people should be working to solve instead of being blinded with rage seeking revenge for a lion.
+navalverde12 I agree with this being a big bullshit media circus. However, starting a post with "who gives a shit about some random lion getting shot" and then following it up by "there are many issues of more important precedence regarding animal rights" is a bit silly. If you care, at all, about animal rights you should give a shit about some random lion getting shot. Arguments like this is as ridiculous as countering "cops should stop killing unarmed urban people" with "but what about black on black crime." The biggest problem we have as a society is we only care about issues when they're the flavor of the month. By saying that this "random lion" being shot with a bow and arrow and allowed to slowly and painfully bleed out to death is fucked up is by, by no means, saying that other issues aren't important. While I totally understand your point, stop trying to devalue certain issues by solely bringing up other ones. Don't be an "all lives matter" proponent.
are you against hunting completely? Like even if the hunter eats the animal
and doesn't just hang it's head as a trophy, or are you only against trophy
hunting?
I see lol. I think it's ok. I wish more people did it instead of letting animals get mistreated in industrial farms. Trophy hunters can get fucked tho.
+Myke C-Town But don't you think it's more respectable for someone who consumes meat, to actually work for it? Instead of contributing to the fucked up factory farming system, they're going out and sometimes hiking miles and miles to track and hunt a deer for example. imo that's much better than buying it at a store. Mostly because it's humbling for most hunters and because that animal got to live it's full natural life but instead of being eaten alive by a predator, they were shot and killed usually instantly. Imo it's a much better way to get meat.
I think that hunting your own food is a great thing to do. I would say that
it actually better for you nutritionally as well as completely
circumventing the food industry.
Trophy hunting is for pussies. If someone wants to kill a predator they
should have to do it with a weapon they made themselves two days
beforehand, or do it barehanded.
Hey Myke, I have a ton of friends that hunt for food. They usually take
half, and donate the other half to the local food charity. Do you still
consider that animal abuse, since they kill them for actual usage? Just
wondering.
Thanks Myke!
