We have specific women parking spots at the train station. They are not any
wider, they simply are closer to the station and better lit. The idea seems
to be, that this way the threat of being raped is reduced.
It is a stupid idea anyway. My mother parked her car there when she went on
holiday by plane and asked me to return the car later that same day (it's a
pay spot), which I did, only to get shit on by two women who were convinced
I was parking there out of pure spite and to perpetuate rape. I told 'em it
wasn't my car, but they wouldn't have any of that. The really annoying part
was, that they were blocking me from leaving the spot for quite a while and
actually took photos of me and the car.

+natemorey Well, I guess statistically speaking, women are of course at a higher risk of being raped. So I believe it is not so bad in theory. In practice however the thing is just not thought out, as it leads to other problems and is clearly not the best way to solve the problem of rape. I just think there are way better ways. The police, for example, is observing the area all day long, doing nothing but dishing out parking tickets. Maybe some of that time would be better spent patroling the very same area in the dark, preventing some actual crime. I'm no expert, but I think it's a safe assumption that the police is better at preventing crime than parking spots are.
