SAT is all about practice and getting familiar with the examination. It's a different format and a very long strenuous exam. In my senior year I took the SAT in october after studying for 2 months and got an 1810 (CR 450, writing 660, math 700) but then 1 month later after doing 10 tests from the collegeboard study guide and learning some new vocab i was able to raise my score by 320 points (780 Math, 730 writing, 620 reading). It's about getting familiar with the exam :)

Last year (I'm a senior now), as a junior in high school, I took the SAT without studying and I got an 1890. If you start hitting the books now, you will be able to do much better believe me. Although you are below the national average, you can do many things to improve your score. Study hard, keep reviewing, and remember don't freak out! You can, and will, do better. You got this!

Really though you are above average considering your location. You probably scored better then most people in your demographic. Like I scored 1800...which is not good enough for me to be considered above average but considering Im black and live in South Central it pretty good. You killed your Critical Reading though good job. It's obvious English is your strong point.

hey so did you get into a good college? oh and im wondering..what was your gpa? and did you take any honors/AP classes? im sorry..but you know how anxious ppl get when its time to apply..thanx p.s. i got a 1620...but my gpa is 2.6 at the moment....not counting this year

@MrMjrcruz if yours is 1140/1600 then that is a good score, if it's 1140/2400 then that is border line retarded.. Sorry, but since it's your first time keep studying and I recommend taking a prep class. If you study real hard you can improve your score drastically.

I got a total of 2230 in Jan 2012 International SAT, with CR 680, M 800 and W 750 (essay 12). If I could use more time and full effort to study it, 2300+ might not be that far away. Sadly, the local university entrance exam involves too heavy workloads.

Oh I love statements that are backed by no facts . In california we had a proposition that got rid of affirmative action so what you said doesn't apply to any of my college applications. So I'm playing on the same level as everyone else buddy.

@EVH578 but i saw others score way lower than me. so i dont take it as border line retarded and i took it at the beginning of the year too. so.. and yes im studying harder and im looking for a prep class i can take at my school.

proposition 209 works only if you are applying to colleges in california, but for colleges out of state being black does give you an edge in the admissions process when they look at the sat scores

Lol Math 420. Hah I guess there is a silver lining to getting that score-you get a funny joke out of it. Also 620 on critical reading? Thats so good I usually get 590s or something D:

SAT I is indisputably difficult to achieve top scores. But SAT II, sorry to say that, is kinda retarded compared to foreign syllabus. I got all 800s in physics, chemistry and math II.

by being black, affirmative action helps you so much. some professors at princeton university did a study which stated that being black adds at least 100 points on ur total score

@tuyurri 1 k not bad w/o studying. i got 1940 after 1.5 months of studying in phys, chem and bio. 2000 would have been better :( but im still happy with my score.

remember the 2 most important section are Math and critical reading, combining boyh you got 1040 which is quite good, you can raise it up to a 1300(over 1600)

The fact that you keep bringing up the fact that I'm black like thats the only way i'm gonna get into college is just appalling.
