Okay, to a certain extent I agree with you. Political parties today are very rigid today and bipartisanship is high. But it's good that we have two different parties. A single-party state is practically a step towards totalitarianism, and more than two major parties (I know there are small other ones...) can be disastrous. Plus, though Americans are not united on some issues, in many ways we are better than 95% of the world, esp considering we are a melting pot. But yes, we have a ways to go....

And how many deaths do you think there were of French civilians when we liberated France? Overall, WWII had a death toll over 6 million, but it was worth fighting because we overthrew two evil empires. Minimizing 4600 needless deaths of American soldiers is beyond belief. Justifying those deaths by reciting non-related and questionable smoking related death statistics is laughable. I got that you're very strongly opinionated, and I doubt open-minded, but if you want me to "get" your other points, you'll need more support for your arguments than a thesis statement alone :p 200 people die every day to smoking, passes Iraq in a month. 4600 lives would hardly be a skirmish in Normandy in WWII. It was pitiful as far as wars go in size. And what we did was almost identical to liberating Nazi-occupied France in WWII. Was the genocide of the jews a lame justification of WWII?

Bush promised to show us irrefutable proof that WMD existed in Iraq. He never did. Why? Because they didn't have it. The chief weapons inspector said that there was no way they could have recovered a weapon program. Other countries that helped us in Afghanistan said no. CIA agents at the time claimed Bush misrepresented a report filed by them. The only evidence they showed us was a picture of what appeared to be flat bed trucks with what could have been beer kegs and taken from 100 miles.

Tell that to the millions of lives we saved in WWII, to the crew of the U.S. Carrier that pushed their aircraft into the sea, to make more room so refugees could escape from South Vietnam, tell that to the people of Iraq, who we're training to govern themselves after overthrowing a Hitler-like dictator, and tell that to Adolf Hitler himself, who lost from pressure on the WEST AND EAST, and tell that to Britain, who we helped win WWII, and South Korea, who we pretty much saved. @faustomrtnz The saying went that the "sun never sets on the British Empire" because Britain had so many colonies around the globe that there was always a territory somewhere where it was daytime. Of course, this gave rise to jokes like "the sun never sets on the British Empire because God doesn't trust the British in the dark, and so forth. But, of course, the Empires are over now. There were many blunders, too much blood. We should not look back on the time as favourably as we do.

@faustomrtnz Well, as far as I'm concerned, everybody has the right to believe their nation is the greatest. You list a lot of negatives about the US, but there many are positives too. You shouldn't put your country down. Personally, I like America, I just don't think it's the best. Just my opinion. As a Brit, I just don't see how anything compares to the industry, concepts of individual rights and freedom, democracy, communications and good law that Britain gave to the world.

Far more people have died in the police in that amount of time. But we accept that because they died for something worth dying for, in a volunteer force. 4600 deaths is a tragedy, but they died for something worth dying for, like our police. If we were "invading" Iraq, we wouldn't be giving the government back to it's own people like we are. We liberated Iraq. We gave them Saddam, and they hanged him, they didn't do that because they were better off under his tyrannical rule.

To your thing about the Pledge of Allegiance: The "under God" was added during the Cold War, when the U.S. wanted to distinguish themselves from the "godless Communists."
