I was the ccatt RN on this transport and Michael was seen promptly in Japan. When his condition worsened, we flew from Hawaii with 14 health care workers ranging from CV surgeons to ICU intensivists and pulmonologists. We brought our own ECMO setup and flew him from Japan to Hawaii, then from Hawaii to Iowa.

I am proud to say that Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana IL has the ECMO. I was in the ER last night with my daughter when they brought in a trauma that they eventually put on ECMO. This gentleman was found unresponsive in 24 degree weather and hypothermia had set in.

wait i want to know more about his story! how sick was he when he went to the doctor? when did he lose consciousness? how did he recover? is he 100% now? what was the infection? i don't care about iowa!
