Acura TSX Brake Pads and Rotors (2004-2008)
How to change brake pads and rotors on a 2004 Acura TSX. Applies to the first generation Acura TSX (2004-2008).
You probably won't be able to tell if the rotors are warped visually (by
looking at them). The slightest warping will cause the vibrations you are
describing. I suggest inspecting your ball joints, control arms, etc to
rule them out before swapping the rotors. Jack up and fully secure the
front wheel (one side at a time), grab onto the wheel and yank it back and
forth in all directions. If you feel any play or hear any clunking, your
problem might be something other than rotors.
Nice video! I have a suggestion for you. You should remove the 14mm caliper
bolts first than the caliper will slide off. The 17mm bolts you are
referring to as caliper bolts are not caliper bolts they are the caliper
bracket bolts. You should of also re-greased the caliper slider pins
sometimes they get stuck if they are not lubed. I have a 2006 TSX, i can
make a video and show you what i mean if i didn't make sense... :)
Thanks for the video. I've just found out that my newly bought 2005 tsx
rattles when braking at high speed. I did some quick researchings online
and most people suggested that it could most likely be the rotors (warped,
need to be machined or too thin and warped.) With this video, I will
attempt to remove the rottors and take a closer look and replace them it
need be. Thanks!!!
Yep. That's the symptom. I guess any failing control linkage, or more
commonly warped rotors, could cause that symptom, but I'm pretty sure I've
narrowed it down to the ball joint at the end of the upper control arm by
shaking the wheel back and forth with both hands while parked. I'll be sure
to share my findings in a DIY video soon!
No. You should not NEED to remove the brake line screw to take anything
out. Everything should come apart just fine with the brake line attached
and bleeder valve closed. However, it is recommended that you open the
bleeder valve before compressing the brake piston, and subsequently bleed
the brake system. Hope this helps!
You could even crank on the wheel while it is on the ground. Also, if you
wind up replacing the rotors, buy the lifetime warranty rotors (most have a
lifetime warranty) and save the receipt. Aftermarket rotors are renowned
for warping within 2 years.
So glad the video helped! It seems like there are very few DIY videos for
this generation of Acura TSX. I hope to put another one out soon as this
vehicle is experiencing shudder when braking likely necessitating an upper
control arm replacement.
Glad to hear the video was helpful! I've had to easy-out rotor set screws
before. Frustrating, huh!? They're not even necessary, and you're doing a
bunch of extra work because some schlub was too lazy to put anti-seize on
them.
used your video and had a perfect time installing the rotors and pads.only
hard part was removal of the two screws holding the factory rotors on. had
to drill and use an easy out on them. Thanks a bunch for posting this
video!!
Thanks for the props tiskeith01! I really appreciate the honest critique.
I'll see what I can do about adding some more detail to the section on
pushing the piston back in.
Like you feel movement in the car when you brake and release the brake to
take off? I think i need to replace my upper control arm as well, for that
reason!
Awesome concise video! Gonna try to tackle this today! Really appreciate it!
