Chabad is everywhere....they don't care even if you're Jewish. Well, their mission is to make Jews more observant and to bring live back to Judaism after the holocaust of the last century, but they aren't going to grill you or something.
This was in 2009. Things have changed so much since then. The Jews seem to
have given up on the younger generation and the focus is now on the black
hat community.
Notrly, actually what''s going on is there is a major transformation going on within American jewry with people either leaving totally (mostly through intermarriage/low birthrates for the uber leftist socialists) or a return to more traditional behaviors.Sure the charedi's bithrates are so prodigious that right now they make up almost all of the Jewish demographic growth, but if Britain is a model, over time both Modern Orthodox and Charedi growth is coming in the next decades...it'll take time to offset the outflow to assimilation through.
You obviously haven't been to a Chabad House lately. I was at a bar mitzvah at the house of the Chabad rabbi of UVa a couple of weeks ago, one of the first Shabbosim of the school year, and there were tons of students there.

Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Kazen, Director of Activities of Chabad Lubavitch in
Cyberspace and considered by many to be the pioneer of Jewish education on
the Internet, passed away yesterday, Tuesday, December 2, at age 44.
Yosef Yitzchak Kazen was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1954 to Rabbi Zalman
and Mrs. Shula Kazen, escapees of Stalin's prisons and the Nazi holocaust.
The Kazen home was always a center of Jewish activity and Yossi, youngest
of seven siblings, grew up helping to resettle Russian immigrants,
preparing and delivering meals to the poor, and volunteering for all types
of communal activities.
