President Xi Jinping of China is to arrive in the United States on Tuesday for a state visit at a crucial crossroads in the Sino-American relationship.
Who is China's President Xi Jinping? BBC News
China's President Xi Jinping has arrived in the UK at the start of a four-day state visit. The British government is keen to develop its relationship with China, with ...
Regarding my last comment, I don't want to be misunderstood. I am
objective. I recognise that no country is perfect and the CCP has done some
good things. But I think it is cynical to deliberately stoke up nationalism
in other countries, even under the context of good relations. Xi is an
interesting man. I think he is more savvy than Hu. But the fact of the
matter is under Xi press freedom has continued to erode, dissidents
continue to be harassed and there is cast-iron censorship on anything
deemed critical of the party. I utterly reject the idea that a 'foreigner'
cannot have any say on China. Why? Because China aspires to be a
superpower. It is both natural and justified the international community
asks questions and raises concerns. Part of mutual respect is being honest.
If we are doing multi-billion trade deals with China, it is completely
valid and if apt, raise concerns to understood who we are dealing with. I
understand why the Chinese here are so defensive. Many of you probably
directly benefit from the party. But you should understand clearly that in
the UK free expression is absolute. We do not go to jail for criticising or
protesting against David Cameron. I want good relations between Britain and
China. Both countries can mutually benefit from that. But I do not wan us
to be subservient- to simply tow Beijing's line. So im sorry if you people
don't like what im saying but it is the truth. And by the way, I don't
believe and never claimed the UK is perfect- we are not. We have a nasty
tabloid press, welfare policies that hurt the poor and austerity politics
that continue to be deeply controversial. We also have questionable foreign
policy- notably our ties to the Saudi regime. So no, do not confuse me as
being blinded by bias because im not.
+Nathan Hazlett It's extremely doubtful that Britain will become subservient to PRC because of a few new trade deals. At the end of the day, Great Britain will act in accordance with its own national interest.
+Nathan Hazlett Tell you what , i will tell you about Mao's cunning little plan to reveal his enemies if you tell me about the beginning of Irish Republican struggles against British rule
+Nathan Hazlett Hey Nathan , i have no problem with your criticisms at all mate . However it seems you have a problem in anyone defending those criticisms , coming from a democracy with freedom of speech and so forth i would have thought you welcome debate . I have answered all your points , you can agree or not but please don't get all defensive i just happen not to agree with you . Your continued point about the Journalist line of questions i have answered . i said the Chinese ambassador handled it with consummate ease and asked you why that line of questioning was not directed at the US ambassador during Obama's visit to which you remain silent . A debate is characterized by the ability to counter your opponent's points which you have failed miserably. I did not state the Journalist had no right to ask those questions but ask why those questions were avoided with your American friends .Why the double standard? surely the BBC who repeatedly tells us of their impartiality are not what they claim to be .
homan2329- You attack a British journalist- in Britain, for doing his job and you have the audacity to talk about civility??Overseas Chinese like you have absolutely no humility. You are so blinded by your uncompromising ultra-nationalism that you seem to be incapable of hearing any critique whatsoever.'How dare these pesky foreigners challenge our middle kingdom'If I was saying these things in China, I would be attacked by a nationalist mob. And I sure as hell wouldn't be allowed an opinion the way you are here!
homan2329- Pretty much every point you made there is utterly baseless. I happen to be Northern Irish. We did indeed go through great upheaval and sacrifice and if you were not so stubborn and sensitive you would see that far from being 'racist' I am merely pointing out that for a nation to move forward it must recognise its past. All the social upheaval we went through can be debated and researched, found in libraries and online. I know Britain has its problems whereas you hold the position that China must never be criticised. You are not reasonable because you believe this journalist should not do his job. You believe that, just like China, the journalist should simply agree with everything the ambassador is saying. Do you deny this? You really don't see how naïve you come across as. I am not saying that to be insulting but because I am frustrated with your utterly stubborn attitude.
+B Tavaz He is looking at China with the perspective of a semi - educated Englishman , he has forgotten or simply don't know the history of democracy in his own country . How long it took , how much social upheaval , civil war , rebellions and sacrifices before they achieved and came to be a mature democracy . He is also looking at China through English eyes , he sees a raising China and that in itself is enough to make China a threat . He sees a China having a bigger say in world affairs and that in itself makes anything China says wrong . He is unable to comprehend that a China that's richer, its people happier, more confident and surpassing them in many aspect of trade and technology as peaceful . That's because he thinks the Chinese sees the world like he does , he feels that if China becomes powerful as the British Empire was they will swallow everything and destroy others that they can't control .It is what he would do if he was in China's position .Engage him with reason as you are trying to is very gallant of you but you are wasting your time .
+Nathan Hazlett Hello, I am from China and I think your comment is quite valid and pracitical, just one further comment on the press freedom, maybe you know there is a political conflict under the table inside CCP, Xi looks powerful now, but his political rival is quite strong(former chairman Jiang), Xi actually need to enhance his power, thus the media control is needed, this country don't want a chaos. I believe in Xi, just give him some time, there will be change, let's see.
+Runqing Zhao LOL he is overwhelmed by facts , i don't give a flying f.... i am upsetting him . He is over every China related video spreading hate , just putting him in his place and educating him , he should be grateful . I am not Chinese though married to a beautiful and intelligent one for which i am very grateful . :)
+Nathan Hazlett Ah at last a little less arrogance and even a little self criticism !! But still underneath all the good will are the lies . Freedom of expression is not absolute in the UK in fact there are many laws against it . Hate speech , incitement to violence almost undefinable and open to abuse by government . Hate speech by Imams punished while equally hateful speech by BNP disregarded .True unlike China criticism of the government here goes unpunished but then China does not go around bombing inoccent people on a pack of lies .Of course foreigners can have a say , has the Chinese attempt to stop you ? It does not mean Chinese have no right to defend their government now does it ? I can understand why you don't wish to be subservient yet the Chinese only wish for a relationship of equals . However you are perfectly happy being America's poodle hoping scraps would be thrown your way if it pleases the master , why's that ? Fact is in China 3rd of the population are either in the CCP or are related to people that are in the CCP . So in reality 2 Third of the populace works for the elite 3rd . Unfair and far from perfect but think , in the West you have 99% working for the elite 1% ! Trickle down economics you call it right ? I would rather have 33% trickling down then 1% any day .The proof of the pudding is in the eating , so ask the Chinese people whether they are better off than they were before , ask them whether human rights for them has improved , ask them whether they have to to work more for less , ask them whether they are free from Washington's dictate , ask them if they feel optimistic about their and their country's future finally turn around and ask those questions to your countrymen and you will at last understand why despite its many faults the CCP remains so popular amongst it's people .
I'm Japanese. F-1, 007, Thunderbird. I love British culture very much.
There's a rumor that China is trying to buy Formula 1. And I've read this
article. Where is the UK going? The UK is a cool country and I have a
strong longing for the UK, but what the UK is doing now is uncool.

Excuse my history... but wasn't it the Chinese Nationalists who fought
against Japan and then started the UN before the Communists led by Mao beat
them into Taiwan? Yeah... So isn't more accurate to say Taiwan did these
things... oh yeah, you think Taiwan is a "Chinese province in rebellion."
Sorry but your "70 year celebration" is a lie.
Its insincere when a Communist Leader presents it as a Communist success. The Tawainese are also Chinese, but Xi only speaks for the Communists, nbot the Chinese people at large. By the way... Hello from USA. I love mu Chinese friends.

+Humble Person I mentioned a simple fact about my friends and you start talking about brain wash, ethics, freedom, technology stealth... Seriously you've got problems. Find a doctor
+Kan Ding Of course that's exactly what we have, the freedom to imagine, explore of minds, and pursue our dreams. That's why we are so advance in our technology. On the other hand, you guys only know how to steal and are not good at it also because you get caught.
I am not a commie, nor Chinese, not even one of these people in the video,
but I just love to read these comments claiming Chinese are brainwashed,
especially when these comments are followed by "China is communist,
communism is evil" lol Yeah, right... you've probably never been to China,
my dear.
+Humble Person I wonder what you consider "communist China". Is it "China under Mao" or 'nowadays China' or maybe both? The scenes you described did not tell me anything about communism though. It told me the struggles/perils of living under a dictatorship, which by the way I already knew -- and it was not from China. My country was under a dictatorship before (supported by the USA) to prevent our country from becoming communist. And things back then were just like the second scene you described. See what I mean? Not a communist thing! Capitalists can also do that, and they did it in the past. As to the beggars, I see no relation to communism either. What I wanted to express in my original comment is: people are eager to blame China's problems on Communism, when China (which is communist only in the name of the political party in power) is no different from other capitalist nations. Dictatorship and Communism are not necessarily the same thing. These people have a poor idea of what Communism is, and this misrepresentation of Communism is a vestige of the "Red Fear" the West created during Cold War, making these people just as ignorant on the matter as the chinese who are supposedly "brainwashed" to support the CCP. You can call this video a propaganda, but if you firmly believe China's problem is "communism" then I'm sorry but you were influenced by some kind of western/capitalist propaganda too.
+AhKaiwillkillyou Yah, I've been to China. I witnessed two scenes which told me everything about communist China. When I was at Tianamen Square I saw a bunch of beggars - mostly without arms and/or legs - running towards me, asking me for money or food during my visit. And my tour guide had to tell us a story in English about a hostile government take-over of the strip of land that once belonged to the farmers, because he was afraid our bus driver might report him to the authorities?
I don`t question Communism is terrible or not, my point is China is not different from most Capitalist countries. So people who blame China`s problems on communism are just clueless, as that is NOT even close to what communism is.
+AhKaiwillkillyou Been there. Shanghai and Beijing. Been to the Bund and all that. But if you wander off the main streets it goes from a high tech modern city to ramshackle houses and brick hovels with tin roofs. And the cops look like military soldiers standing around everywhere. As if Communism being terrible is debatable anymore.

Think about this, if Obama go to China, and ask your American in China to
wear Obama mask? Don't you think it's like a clown ? Lol I think it's so
weird. Wearing the mask for what? They wont probably do that inappropriate
thing there while they welcome Chinese president.
And I see a lot of propaganda like social media in us to magnify China's defects, sometimes it's not exactly true. Overlooking and over self-central are emergence of decay.
and BTC china is back up and running now, with a new name omitting "china";
BTCC. following the previous sham by the US to shutdown Mt Gox in japan and
replace that with coinbase in the US which suddenly gained wall st.
support. hmm. wonder if they're gonna magically make all debt disappear
(except yours) and replace the dollar raping-tool with something
electronic, and 100% trackable, taxable, controllable turn on/off-able?
Democracy is just a word, mainly used in western anti-emerging power propaganda....marx. Its a beautiful word but the way you use it rly makes you look really stupid. China could never afford expensive prime London property if democracy was unknown. its quite a challenge explain to a proud white dude. But you need to be better educated before passing mindless comments like that. Your descendants could be mumbling Chinese song lyrics on the bus to school one day.
+Marky Marx Stupidity a well known concept in United Kingdom. Hubris and enslavement. Also a renowned concept in UK. Ahh and before I forget- a dysfunctional bi-partisan government and bad politics, a unique attribute of western democracy. UK- mother of western democracy?? look at india, (UK largest colony), Africa...
+co balt China is not a communist country, completely different with soviet union communist. It is very similar to national socialist german workers party.
+andres viveros well said! No offense to Chinese and just curious about what brings so many China supporters? It's hard to understand since it's a communie country lol
