Hi my daughter wants to be an Archaeologists, I would like to know what
schools or Universities here in the United States that she can attend, so
that she is able to accomplish this, she is currently a Junior in
HighSchool. I need advise on how to get her going in the right direction.
+medicup9111 Not a problem at all and I am excited to hear that you found a camp for your daughter to go to for the summer. I really hope she has a great time and again, feel free to send myself an email if you have any further questions. :)
Thank you for the information I did Find the Texas Archaeological society so I manges to get signed up for the up coming summer camp, and a dig site they are currently working her in Texas. Thank you again for your help sorry it took me a while to respond but I have been busy with Nursing school.
Sorry for the late response. Research is key when wanting to get into archaeology. Over here in the states it is a bit tricky as most universities consider archaeology under the umbrella of anthropology and of course, the way it is taught is much different from over in Europe and the UK speaking from first hand experience.A couple things I would recommend for now is to think about if she wishes to stay close to home or doesn't mind living far away, then here within the next year, see if your state has an archaeological field school she can attend over the summer. I cannot stress enough how important it is to start getting experience early on and the school will also help her decide if archaeology is something she really wants to do.As far as top ranked universities within the US, the top 3 are Harvard, University or Michigan and Stony Brook University in New York. There is also others such as Texas A&M, Arizona State, Univeristy of Florida and University of Washington to name a few. If she is interested in distance learning, I am finishing my degree in archaeology from the University of Leicester out of the UK and then will continue with post grad work at the University College Dublin in Ireland. So, there are tons of options, she just needs to research some and think about what exactly she wants to get our of her college experience. If you have more questions or if she would like to talk to me, please feel free to email me at [email protected].:)
Hello, thanks for your comment. I can certainly see your logic, on the face of it the initial word seems redundant (or vice versa). However, it is necessary as it clarifies an archaeologist's speciality. Historical as opposed to Prehistorical, or Medieval or Romanist or Evolutionary etc etc. In this instance 'History' is something very specific, rather than a general term. Thanks for watching :D
Did you ever feel growing up you weren't smart enough to do what you are
doing right now. I just want to make i difference and i feel like i am not
smart enough to.
Hello. Yes, I felt/ feel like that all the time! You're probably smarter than you think, but putting that to one side - The one thing which you certainly have which others do not is your perspective! No one else has your perspective on the world, your concerns or your observations, your experience, bias, feelings, fears or passions... With this comes the potential for unique insight and hitherto un-imagined contributions.Don't set out to 'make a difference', just aim to contribute what you (and only you) can... That has the potential to make all the difference with the world!

When you're talking about archaeology, the most important tool you saw was
the trowel he was using. Specifically it was a marshalltown, considered by
most american archaeologists to be the gold standard and, in fact, a status
symbol in the field. Those can be purchased online, or in stores like rural
king.
great video well explained 5 star is there anymore tools tho I'm going to
be going to college soon to start archaeology and I'm gathering as much
information as possible thanks
