$2, 450 is not enough. Penalties for animal neglect and cruelty are
lagging. Courts do not seem to realize the seriousness of such cases, or
the extent to which abusers are sick. Not only should owners or
"caretakers" receive hefty financial fines, but also an education on what
proper care entails. Other than that, I just want to express my gratitude
for the dedication displayed by SPCA officers and volunteers ,
veterinarians and farriers that helped this pony and countless others. God
bless.
This is a case of something called laminitis, which generally develops (we
think) because of grass with a high sugar content. Wild horses eat a lot of
tougher, less sugar-high grass for most of the year, and they also do a
surprising amount of walking which helps wear the hoof down. Laminitis is
what causes the bone to move which pushes any new growth out and upwards
rather than continuing in the direction of a normal hoof.
is this in aurstralia? i kno its nothing to do with it but its the accents
lol and this is wat ive always wanted to do from childhood, im 16 now,
ready for college and i just want to do anything with animals and hope to
get a chance to go to africa maybe to the safari reserve, but watching this
just shows how crule people can be :/
I am so sickened by owners like this vile person that allowed Lucy to
suffer for so long. I am however so happy that she made a good
recovery....as for the owner...he should also have been banned for life
from ever keeping livestock!!! Shame your laws are not powerful enough
against Animal Abuse ..Well done RSPCA.
There was a case in Western Australia like this (two shetlands) and the
worst thing was that the owner didnt get fined or convicted of anything. The
RSPCA was majorly out of pocket for the court case and the care of the
ponies. You'd hope and pray that anyone who is so inhumane to any animal is
prosecuted
I love how shelters like this treat animals. They make them feel like they
are special, and not just in a medical way. The vet made her specific pads
for her hooves and put her in with a gentle gelding. (Gus is really cute)
All animals should be treated like this: like they are unique beyond belief.
I was happy to see that at least she wasn't starving. I've read up on
horses, and one thing you can never neglect not even for a day is their
hooves. Their hooves require everyday checking just to make sure their not
cracked, out grown shoes if they wear them, Or in Lucy's case getting to
long.
I have met Lucy and done some work with her and Gus. She is a beautiful
girl and very loving. I feel sorry for any animal who has to go through
this kind of cruelty and neglect. People need to learn that animals have as
much right to live in this world as we do.
They should show this to the RSPCA UK, they just put horses like this down.
That's cheaper and easier. HOw they treat animals at the moment is an
outrage. Luckily more people start to realise what is going on and
questions are being asked higher up.
that had to take a long time to grow that long, why didn't the rescue come
sooner or take her away before? why do they have to wait so long in these
abuse cases? Poor pony, so glad she is away from that hellish owner, she is
so pretty!
Dear god. If you can't afford to pay for a farrier, or spare the time to
learn to trim hooves yourself, DON'T GET A HORSE/PONY/HOOFED ANIMAL. I just
can't believe a sane person would ever be so heartless as to let this go on
so long...
bravo, bravo, bravo :D quel plaisir de voir des gens comme vous et moi
avancer main dans la main pour aider les animaux, que serait devenu ce
pauvre poney? mon dieu je vous envois tout mon amour
You can read Lucy's Story on the RSPCA World of Animal Welfare (WOAW)
website. Use the link in the video description to go straight to the
article or search for Lucy once there.
I love this. If I could, I would donate so much to the RSPCA. They are
amazing. They may not fix the world, but to that animal, their world is
changed forever.
Nice that the pony got all better, but only charging the owner $2450? Wow,
no wonder so many people neglect animals. The penalties aren't NEARLY
severe enough.
Ridiculous, how would this person like it if we never allowed them to
bathe? Why is it so hard for some people to put themselves in these animals
shoes?
Great work RSPCA. Now all you need to do is mutilate the animals genitals
and throw the left over meat in a bin. Keep Australia Tidy!

I went into the RSPCA in Putney when I was pregnant back in the 1993 with
my stafforshire Bull Terrier. This was a the height of the dangerous dogs
act etc. My dog was just sitting next to me. An inspector in uniform stared
at me with the most evil look and tried to intimidate me for all the time I
was sitting in the waiting room approximately 20 minutes. His eyes did not
move away from us. He was staring at my dog as if he was trying to wind him
up. It was very strange. I will never forget that. Being heavily pregnant I
really felt uncomfortable as this man was not normal let me tell you and I
was carrying my son and not able to walk fast let alone run. If I had to
engage in any kind of nasty conversation on his part that would've made me
feel terrible. It was summer, boiling hot and I could hardly breathe. The
last thing I needed was this individual on my case. Maybe being a woman,
black, 8 months pregnant and owing a Staffordshire Bull Terrier put me on
his immediate shit list Im not sure. I know the RSPCA Recently 2013 I
wanted to sign up my dogs with them, but was told that I had to neuter the
male ( I had done his sister already). As he was less than 1 year old it
can be dangerous to do it so early so I refused to do it. The woman was
very rude and totally arrogant - another Nazi. They get off on the fact
people come for help and they treat them like crap with no accountability
to their behaviour or actions. I have also experienced this a few times at
the Blue Cross, but not too often. They are becoming a bit more like the
RSPCA I have noticed over the past couple of years. They used to be a
friendly charity, but I do detect a shift. Back to the RSPCA Im sure good
work is done, but there is too much conflict of interest with intense
farmers, huge donations they receive and an attitude amongst a lot of their
staff that they have the power to treat the public with contempt.
The male member of staff has obviously overheard the conversation and
decides to take over. He then makes the young lady explain again and then
acts like a totally Nazi. Unless they have something to cover up or hide,
giving you a letter which you did not write, which gives them the power to
remove and keep your pet surely must be available for you to see. If not
then the RSPCA could literally write their own letters, never let the owner
see it and steal animal. The RSPCA has been under scrutiny for a long long
time. They have a lot of money donated to them and treat people very badly
indeed as you have been. I hope you get your dog back. Please let us know
how you got on.
Will you help the RSPCA and answer the cries of suffering anmals?
