Block Heater Cold Start and Some Plowing "Roof & Dash Cam"
Testing my new block heater that I put in when I changed out my water pump this summer. Looks like it is working great. It was cold. 8 degrees with a wind chill of ...
That's my luck to it's almost guaranteed if I get a car was or detail my
truck it's more then likely gonna poor that day haha I'm preying to the
snow gods
I think you'll see that it will handle a lot of snow better then the
smaller plow if it's heavy wet snow don't push it straight on because it's
so much weight just take slices just go for it darth has just about seen it
all anyway haha can't be any worse then last winter
+mossman381 After last winter's hard beating in Ontario, Canada we are looking like a really mild, dry December so far..they say around Christmas it changes to cold and snow, so let's hope!
I was told (and I'm not sure it true) that you should plug the heater in
after the truck is warm, say the previous day, so it doesn't have to
struggle to warm up the truck. Rather, it just keeps it warm. Thought I'd
pass that along to you to decide
+123guinness I have heard similar things. Dad will plug his truck in all night sometimes. I don't see that hurting anything. I wonder if the owners manual says anything about the block heater. I will look and see.
That I do. It was just something I noticed from the outside temp and what my edge was showing the coolant temp at. I'm not sure where the edge reads the coolant temp from. Does your truck go into high idle at all?
+max dean That doesn't seem very warm to me. If it is single digits your coolant wont be very warm. My truck was blowing warm air a few minutes after I started it. If you have a diesel you know it takes a long time to get heat. I am very pleased with my block heater.
They dont made them bigger yet, That why I got my dually, never gonna need more than that so I'll keep it for a loooong time. Tows like a dream and still goes through plowed fields without lockers :D
+mossman381carefull, the newer the truck, the higher they sit, and old fifth wheel gets closer and closer to the bed rail until you need to raise the camper
That is our CAT 977. It needs a water pump and exhaust manifold gasket. Here is a video of dad crushing culverts with it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KL45xuh9eUI . The Versatile will get torn apart sometime this winter.
So it got real cold in the Toronto/GTA area (-40*C cold), so cold that I ended up using the block heater for the first time in 10 years. All I can say it really helped ...
Block heaters are nice but many think they need them. Your 20 minutes or so
of plug in time did very little. To be in a case where you would truely
need one, you would have to be in biblical lows. Just keep your battery
clean, good fuel and you are set.
Car block heater explodes
A reason to make sure you're not using a cheap extension cord.
