Forgot about this rather steep little hill (camera doesnt do it justice but see the angle of the trees) whilst taking a shortcut through the back lanes to avoid traffic.
Good work there. A friend has a 1 series on summer tyres and can't get off
the drive in snow. I drive a Freelander 2 (one of the few who go off road
with it) and it has been perfectly reliable surprisingly. I fitted winter
tyres to it despite it being unstoppable on the standard M+S tyres in snow.
My reasoning was superior all round performance in winter such as braking
and the fact I do voluntary work for a 4x4 response group helping emergency
services in adverse weather. Good investment indeed
It a common misconception that winter tyres are only designed for ice and
snow. Any temperature below 8C and they will out perform summer tyres. With
no legislation in the UK, most people are going to be trying to drive
around with summer tyres in these sort of road conditions then wonder why
they get stuck or crash. Also, there has been a UK supply issues for winter
tyres making them harder to find that rocking horse poo and over three
times the price as Europe when you can get hold of them.
@snaken2 Pretty much the she same reason why people in Australia or Africa
don't buy winter tyres, because the weather in southern England deemed them
not necessary until recently!! Last winter was the first in ~20 years with
snow that was over a cm or two in depth that lasted for more than a day or
so, most winters since about 1990 we've had nothing at all. As we now seem
to be in a weather cycle where we're starting to get colder winters again,
winter tyres are starting to get used.
Tried it, doesn't work. The first year with the car and no winter tyres I
basically unloaded all the heavy things in my garage into the car, so had a
mig welder, a couple of differentials, a couple of bags of cement, a large
trolley jack, my chest toolbox and 2 sets of brake discs in the boot to
try and get some weight over the back end, but there was very little
improvement.
winter tyres are not only for snow and ice, they perform better also on
cold road surfaces and in water. I'm in northern italy and we too don't get
much snow in the plain except for a couple of times a year, but still
winter tyres make the difference in every day winter drive
Well done!!!I am pleased that there are some responsible drivers like you
in Britain.if more people would use winter set it would be much safer.I
also bought set of verdestein Wintrac and I am very satisfied.
The Falken Espia EPZ I find to do better in the ice and snow. The
Eurowinters, by far outperform the Espia's on DRY ROAD CONDITIONS. Hope
that helped :-)
Why you should fit Winter Tyres to all four wheels.
Rebecca Jackson demonstrates the hazards of fitting Winter Tyres to only two wheels in this comparison video. Although it may save you money, and is ...
What a load of rubbish!!! Surely it's much safer driving with winters on
the front and summers on the back.... THAN FOUR SUMMER TYRES!!!! Why didn't
you fit the cars with 4 summer tyres to show the comparison there??? I
really can't believe that you're advising motorists that fitting 2 winter
tyres is more dangerous that not fitting any at all!!!!! Shocking.
Her driving was bad, but the message on the video is worse, I have fitted winters to the front of both my fwd cars for the last 3 winters and the results were good. Much better traction and aslong as you dont act the moron the back will follow the front.
Also to add, although there is oversteer the FWD car with only winter tyres fitted to the front, its easily controllable and very predictable, still a whole lot better than four summer tyres.
