Uber : Should You Buy a New Car to Use as an UberX Car or Not?
If you're thinking about driving for Uber and need a car, this video might help. Or not! :) Full List of Uber Vehicles //www.driveubernyc.com/vehicles/full-list/ ...
+Joseph Dickson https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/tax-tips/Small-Business-Taxes/Business-Use-of-Vehicles/INF12071.htmlThis claims vehicles used as Taxi's are exempt. But I you maybe able to claim purchase price and not mileage.
+Joseph Dickson In most cases you'll need a car whether you work for Uber or not. You may also be eligible for tax breaks given that the vehicle was purchased for work. You hear Uber drivers making 15k to 100k so its difficult to get an actual mean.
+Joseph Dickson Yup. They try to create buzz with the lure of big bucks, but it's hard to believe that anyone can sign up and make 90K per year or anywhere near that. All the risk is on the driver.
The more I think about it, the worse it sounds. It would be interesting to interview a bunch of drivers that took the new car bait on sign up. It might make sense to buy a new car later on, once you're a happily established driver. But certainly not from day one ...
+season387 I'm wondering if they have some type of calculation based on headroom + legroom + shoulder room + hip room + something else ... or if they base it on passenger complaints?
Also hybrid. Not just for mpg but it helps reduce wear on brakes. Looks up
what uber drivers have to pay to maintain car exc. hybrids reduce a lot of
that cost.
Spot on, +police1184. In-town use is best for hybrids. Brake pads are inexpensive but I'd reckon that most Uber drivers aren't going to do the D-I-Y thing, especially as preventive maintenance. The trick is to change them early, before they start chewing up the rotors and cranking up the repair cost ...
It is sad that they do not accept the BMW i3.
Let say you can do half your day on pure electric. Or even better, let say
you take a diner break and charge, extending your time on pure EV. Gas, no
matter the price must be the biggest expense.
Of course a Tesla has more range but would cost 30,000$ more or so. A Chevy
Volt has less range of pure EV making the i3 a good choice for that.
Sadly they don't accept it..
Agreed! The i3 could be an awesome Uber car, +Martin Brochu. I will knock on their door and ask specifically why some of the cars are excluded.

Uber Update Deep Integration. No longer need to forward your emails its will integrate with you Uber account by signing in with your Uber credentials. SHERPA ...
I just downloaded the app and I have a two questions that stick out,
anybody feel free to chime in:
1.) For expenses, do you put in the exact amount of gas on your receipts
every week? I'm wondering if the app proportions the amount I use for uber
hours vs personal use instead of assuming the whole tank is for uber.
2.) It looks like the miles only update with the miles you have passengers
in the car. Do you go back and adjust the mileage to add the miles you
didn't have passengers? Since you were still working while driving to the
next pick up.
Thanks so much for the info!! I'll be tracking both expenses and mileage (with & without customers). It'll be interesting to see what the numbers look like after another month. Really looking forward to the updates on the Android version of the app.
With Uber deep integration it will automatically upload the miles you drive with Uber while on rides. If I were you I would upload the miles you don't drive people. The new iOS app from Sherpa tracks all your mileage including the ones you don't have customers with plus you can choose which are business and which one are private. When it comes to adding your expenses I would add everything but remember when you file taxes it's either has or miles you can't claim both. I'm not a expert in taxes but when I filed my taxes I was advices of that.
you can but you cant claim cost of gas and claim mileage its either or you can claim cost of car wash waters etc but you either claim cost of gas or mileage not both
