@SCRTChannel Robby Gordon got third in 2009 in his 2wd hummer tuck. The
dakar courses seem to favor cars that are sort of a mix between a wrc rally
car and a baja racing truck. Baja trucks are faster through really rough
poorly maintained roads and big woops, but shorter travel awd cars corner
better on graded dirt/gravel roads.
@ghost9431 ... New ones deep six figures, plus spares, and then entry fees,
chase expenses, etc. Gets expensive quick. It's a million dollar sport
that's for sure. You can find used ones on race-dezert for $50k to $100k.
But the costs involve more than just the car.
Check out this trip which is being marketed for 6 people to do a 2,133km
(1,340miles) buggy adventure across Namibia in Southern Africa. Check out
the YouTube video called:- Henry Cookson Adventures - Trans-Namibia Buggy
Expedition 2012
good question. I think it is because the Dakar has more restrictive vehicle
categories ---- USA has two unlimited classes. Also, doing Dakar is an
enormous committment of time and money - not that USA desert racing is
cheap!
@jharms1994 fans are the radiator fans... radiators located for better
airflow and won't be damaged in crashes or bumps with other vehicles.
Drivers and navigators get really hot and uncomfortable in the summer months
yo what are these buggies worth? can you buy a retired buggy? i'm talking
THESE ones. no substitution. are they obtainable in the private market? are
they around $1,000,000?

@slickster3211 It is almost 100% stock. Any safety modification is allowed,
any tire as long as it fits under the fenders. The can use different
shocks, all engine parts including the intake and carburator have to be
stock but you can use any cam which makes for some interesting cam grinds.
Given the limited horse power and primitive suspension the class 11 drivers
have to be among the toughest and smartest as your not going to horsepower
your way through.
By far and away the best EVER Class 11 video Bar None. I just purchased the
black #1158, Dave Hendricksons Death Mobile this past weekend, and is seen
on this video at 2:08 passing 2 at once then checking out.....Awesome!!
this is probably a stupid question, but are they completely stock? or does
that just refare to the engine? or it it the whole car (engine, suspension,
exaust)?
