Preventing Eye Ptosis by Dr. Rebecca Gelber - Empire Medical Training

I had a doctor inject me with migraines. I"ve had them for our 32 years. My
neurologist injected me and I had ptosis. When I had a follow up
appointment with him I told him that I've researched what went wrong. He
injected me to low by my brow, didn't measure it out just poked away. I
know he hit an nerve because I screamed when he injected me in my neck. He
also injected me in my neck and I couldn't move my neck for at least 3
weeks. No post op instructions. He was really flip and took no
responsibility for it. He said I wasn't a candidate and wanted to refer me
out to someone else. I've researched it should be marked off and use Ice.
Awful, doctor. He said he has done thousands of injections and "NEVER" had
a problem. I know it's not true after watching this video and doing
research. Advice read all about the treatment before you go to a doctor. It
is helping me with I still have ptosis. Great video. He said a "Money"
could do it. So I guess his isn't that good.
Hi Dr. Thanks for your response. I actually just noticed your comment when
looking over some of these videos myself. I would suggest that you follow
up with your physician who performs these procedures frequently and who can
really take a close look at your eye and determine what muscles are
involved. Typically an eyelid ptosis should only last for about 2-3 weeks.
Also, there are different eye drops that you can use that can really help
but a history and physical needs to be performed first.
I watched your video , thanks for putting it on you tube, I am suffering
from ptosis for 15 days after my Botox my left eyelid has dropped and it's
not getting better, and I've been using the same drop, but it's not helping
much, just gives me blurry vision. how long do you think it takes for the
ptosis to go away. I don't leave the house because of my odd look , please
help me,..

Wow u r lucky! I also have a ptosis in my left eye but thats with
marcus-gun jaw wink which is hard to fix. I had a surgery for my droopy
eyelid but my eyes are still not equal. I feel like the difference between
my two eyes is still very noticeable. My eye also gets dried sometimes if
it remains open. I have to wear an eye patch every time i go to sleep. It
sucks! I dont think so I have money to do another surgery but its really
bothering me=[ I am glad u were able to get help. It looks great!!
@TearsDontFaall You CAN get this surgery if you choose to. You need to
openly discuss this with your parents and tell them how you feel and that
you would like to have a ophthalmologic plastic surgeon look at it and
discuss your options. Don't feel like you are powerless. You need only to
make the decision. I've done the same so I know. Sometimes these things are
so embarrassing to talk about. I know... believe me. But until you're an
adult, you need to talk to your parents. They will understand
i have had a lazy eye since i was born. i went into surgery for this first
time 4 years ago, to find that the surgery hasnt worked. The surgeon told
me to go back in another year to see if things improved. as the times went
by, i had been put on the list to have another operation on my eye lid,
which was last year in november. another year on and i have still seen no
improvement what so ever, i even think that my eyelid is worse now then
ever. i am so depressed over it and i want it fixing bad.
I just find out the name of this condition this week. I've notice since '07
in a pic that my left eye was slightly down. Also, taking pics in '08 I was
even noticing it even more. I feel somewhat ashame to take pics, but more
so in a group setting because my left eye will or might be off. The only
way to deal with this problem, is to put the cam on soft flash, or not to
even focus on the flashing light. I'm gonna have to get surgery in the
future because i'm afraid my left eye might sag more.
I had surgery to correct ptosis on my left eyelid two weeks ago, and I'm so
happy with the results. It was done under local anesthesia with twilight
sedation. I was swollen for a few days afterwards, with a bit of yellow
discoloration under the eye. The swelling faded faster than I imagined it
would and I was only slightly sore for the first day. I didn't even need
Tylenol. For anyone with this condition, I highly recommend you look into
this procedure. I can't tell you how much better I feel.
There are multiple ways to correct a droopy eyelid. It depends on the cause
of it. I am not sure what procedure you had. Typically we tell patients to
avoid exercise for 3 weeks. I do not know why he wants you to look up and
down 10 times a day since every time you look around you are doing that
anyways. I hope this helps. Good luck with your next procedure. If you have
any other questions please feel free to contact my office at 310 777 8880
to set up a consultation. Sincerely, Kami Parsa, MD
I'm sitting here just spilling out tears because everything she said-i
feel. When I was growing up I just loved life, I never knew I was
different, I never knew my eyes weren't the same. As I got older kids in my
class would point it out to me, and I'd go home to my family asking why do
I get made fun of? Why do people not want to be my friend? They told me to
'ignore it' , I tried. I hit highschool and now I'm just so sheltered. I
cant look at people, or take pictures. I wish I could get this
I have Ptosis too, its like living while slowly dying, i hate when taking
pictures, my eyes doesn't look good when cameras are above me, i just hate
it, sometimes i feel like I want to die, I wanna be like the other teens
that could look any angles they want without trying to raise their damn
eyebrows just to make the vision equal, whenever i walk I always look down
so people won't see what kind of curse I have. I wish i could have the same
surgery as that.. but I dont have money for that :'(
I have the same condition and honeslty I hate my life because of it.
Everyday is an ongoing battle with myself i hate looking at myself in the
mirror I hate taking pictures because no matter what i can never hide the
way my eye looks I hate going to school, I hate anything social. I even
hate leaving my house just because of this condition, I don't know but i'm
just sick of everything. I see my eye doctor in june hopefully he can fix
it. I'm glad your surgery went well, best of luck to you
i actually have a congenital ptosis, i made 2 surgeries, the first one was
2 years ago and basically they cut just the eyelid, it was better but still
very different from the other eye, 3 weeks ago i've been trough another
surgery they attached the eyelid to the muscles of the forehead. my eyes
are still different and the eyelid in which i have the ptosis doesn't bend
properly. i'm very worried about it. will it fix itself by the time? the
surgeon told me so but i'm not sure about it :(
Dr Parsa, I have congenital ptosis on my left eyelid. In 1999 I had a
surgery and what the surgeon did he took out of my right leg the facialis
and so with this (facialis) they attached the eyelid to the eyebrow
totally. So, when I raised the eyebrow the eyelid would automatically
raised itself. And 2 months ago I did a second surgery, and the surgeon
didn't do anything except he exploited my eyelid a little bit. So the
result is pretty much the same. So tell me is there any hope for me!
I've had ptosis ever since I was born just like many of you who have posted
here. It's not nearly an extreme case but it is noticeable. It really does
make social situations and eye contact awkward. I've never talked to anyone
about it just because I feel embarrassed. I looked up how much the surgery
was and found that it is really expensive and that it doesn't always work.
But I saw someone mentioned the product Eye Magic a few months back in
these comments. Has anyone here used it?

Hi +christine ruscoe,An optician might refer you to a specialist, but an eye or eyelid surgery specialist are more the scope of an ophthalmologist or oculoplastic/oculofacial surgeon. I hope this clarifies things for you.
Hi +Xoch Gabriela,The extent of your injury would have to be examined before coming up with a cost for surgery. Addressing a droopy eyelid is not a generic procedure, so I would need to see what happened to you, and what it would take to fix before coming up with a cost. I hope this helps you.
Hi, im 14 years old and i have Ptosis. I'm not aloud surgery because my
vision is good and the surgeon said my ptosis will recover when i grow. I'm
afraid it won't happen, so have you got any tips or suggestions to overcome
ptosis if you can't have surgery?
+Ryzist Have you at least tried? It took me hours straight of looking in the mirror to understand most visible and invisible muscles that can level it out.
+chatochafa130 I Understand what you're trying to tell me, but i'm still a little confused. I tried getting surgery on lazy eye but my eye sight was perfect so they wouden't operate on my eye until i was 18 which was very annoying. But i've had a lazy eye lid since i was born, and it's always bugged me in photos and stuff. I Just wished their was a simple soultion to fix the eyelid and level it out.
+Ryzist Yes. Only I notice it. Since I was about 11, kids picked on me for it. They made jokes that really ruined my early teen years. When I was 14, I looked in the mirror and tried to sorta squint the eye that isn't "lazy" and nobody has told me about it since then. If anything, the kids who used to pick on me ask me sometimes, "Wasn't something wrong with your eye a long time ago?" And I say only I notice it because I pay attention to my own face the most, and sometimes I get insecure about it and ask friends "DOES MY EYE BOTHER YOU??" And they have no idea what I'm talking about. Maybe you have to squint your eyes another way. Don't get it twisted. I'm not saying you have to look asian just to hide it from people, but if you squint the outer part (meaning the part of your face between your eye and side burn) of your good eye just a little, it'll sorta match with the "lazy" eye. Really, it's a lazy eye lid. People don't understand that. Mess around a bit to see how you can make it look symmetrical. Try bringing the eyebrows up if you're looking down. If you're looking straight up, bring your eyebrows down, making you look just a little mad. I'd recommend using two mirrors so you can experiment on how people can see you. The mirror is how you see you. Let me know if you're confused.
It should fix at least a little. I had it since I was 10. I should've gotten surgery at 14, but I didn't. At 16, I found a way to decrease its exposure. I try to flex the muscles on the outer parts of my eye sockets, pulling my cheeks up just a bit. From there, pulling my lazy eye lid with its own muscle is easier.
Hi Ryzist,You can look for an oculoplastic/oculofacial surgeon in the UK. These are the surgical specialists that do ptosis correction. I wish you the best of luck with it.
Hi Ryizst,We have two locations in New York: Manhattan and Garden City, Long Island. Arrangements can be made by your parents through our website www.prasadcosmeticsurgery.com. I hope you are able to make it here.
+Amiya Prasad, M.D. We wen't to optician, and we where referred to a city general. And they said no because i had perfect eye sight, may i ask where are you loacated?.... So i can maybe under-go surgery up their?
Hi +Ryzist ,I think you should ask your parents to get a second opinion from on oculofacial/oculoplastic surgeon. There really is no way to treat ptosis outside of surgery. Ptosis does occur at young ages from birth or due to injury, so your case is not uncommon. May I ask what type of surgeon you consulted? Only oculofacial/ oculoplastic surgeons perform ptosis correction surgery. I wish you the best of luck with what you and your parents decide to do.
