In this video I try to explain the different camera views you can use in Project CARS (and other racing games) and which one is best. Spoiler alert: there isn't one ...
My favorite is helmet cam because you can add jitter and head turns. It
feels most authentic. But when I do time trials I use roof view since it
lends to better visual for speed.
I like the helmet, bumper and chase cams. Btw have you considerd doing
something in project cars sort of like you did in GTA where you test cars
on a track, gt3 for example, and tell us the results as to what's fastest.
this topic reminds me on my N64 racing days.. when i always drove bumper
while my cousin and brother played on chase... starwars podracer.. those
where the days :p
Torn between hood and cockpit. Used to use bumper myself, but the hood is
better now as it is slightly higher up so you can see a bit better in front
of you. But I also like the cockpit view and still deciding between them.
I'm wondering how important the FoV is, I've seen some people saying it's
very important, and others saying not really.
I used calculators but they don't work because I'm sat too far away from
the screen and they only go up to around 30" distance.
Far more important than the view itself is the FOV. Best/most realistic is
determined by screen size and distance to the screen. There's preference,
of course, but when you're at a certain level you'll find that consistency
is difficult to achieve with certain camera types. What the iRacing
community in particular has proven is that a higher FOV than what would be
realistic disturbs reference points and especially a switch to real racing
would be very jarring.
There's no right or wrong here, but a game like GTA V has bigger margins
and more room for different cameras to be effective. Project Cars is
different here because there's more precision involved, although many
things are important to consider.
In effect, the cockpit view would actually be more realistic and, in the
long run, will grant faster lap times with decreased FOV. That's what I
would suggest to Broughy because he mentioned it but didn't elaborate and
he might not have tried it. I once thought it was all down to preference,
and while preference is the most important thing, FOV has proven to create
more consistency and represent distances as they should be - namely, as
they actually are.
+evklinken I'd say to my mate how tf can u drive with the camera so far away? Like he's in a helicopter or something. But this dude is old school, and has always driven that way. I'd guarantee he'd keep up with any player of a similar skill level (probably our level, keen at racing games but also has life outside of racing) But I'd be lucky if 1 lap was good in that view. I can defense drive that view easier but that isn't my preferred racing style.
It is entirely true that driving style plays a big part, but when you hit a certain level and I'm not trying to thump my chest here and say I'm all that consistency at 95% of the limit is nigh on impossible with chase because you simply cannot see correctly where your car is in relation to the track and braking points. You can pump out a quick lap or two, but try and be consistent for 40 laps with chase. I doubt you won't go off.
This really depends on your driving style. I prefer the camera as close to the front wheels for quickest lap results (bumper & cockpit im around 2-3 sec lap slower at bathurst vs bonnet cam) So my style agrees with your ^ comments, BUT I have friends who cannot use the 3 closest views (bumper bonnet and cockpit) He's avg 5sec lap slower at bathurst compared to his preferred 'remote control car' (chase cam)

It's easy. If it's a nano quad, with no fancy buttons, then press the right stick and it should beep, after the beep, push the right stick in the direction you want to flip. For remotes with many fnacy button, there should be a button on the bumper, tap it once, beep and choose the direction.
+Cassie Brown There is an on/off switch next to the charging port on the helicopter. Switch that to on. Then turn on the transmitter (which must be set to Channel C for the helicopter). That should be all there is to it. :)

I like this truck driver.... he cares for peoples safety ....
thats a quality driver there. if a load needs 4 chains, he will put 12 just
for measure...
better safe than sorry. I wish there were more drivers like him.
@5:30 There is no DOT regulation that says a tractor has to have a headache
rack. If a trailer does not have a header board you can legally build one
out of donnage and a bound chain. The requirement for a headache rack on a
tractor is Company/Client... Not DOT. Secondly, a tractor headache rack is
nothing more than a place to store chains and tarps. They provide no
protection what so ever. I have seen loads of lumber pierce straight
through them into the tractor. I have seen coils snap them off and flatten
a truck cab. I have owned my own trucks and fleets with over 20 years in
the industry. Your 3 year veteran trucker is talking out his ass.
The key is properly securing the load because once that shit moves, you
are fucked!
saw a load of pipe slam into the back of a truck. headache rack saved his life. in most cases it will deflect the freight upward enough to keep driver safer. not totally safe, but safer.
Here's the thing man, just take a close look at a headache rack on a tractor these days. If a load hits that rack it can, will and does snap the braces and lays over into the cab. This is why I say they provide no protection. If you got a squirrel load like suicide coils on you gotta know what the hell you are doing. Suicide coils are some of the easiest trouble free loads there is BUT if you don't secure it right and you have to slam on the brakes; once that shit starts moving the inertia from the movement comes into play it does not matter how many chains you have...YOU ARE FUCKED.I had a guy on the atlanta loop in one of my (at the time) brand new Freightliner FLC-XL roll tops with a 500 cat and a brand new transcraft eagle trailer back in 2003 that had a load of lumber on...Car did a swoop and squat on him. He had to slam on the brakes to keep from killing a family of 6 in the car. Load of lumber pierced the headache rack on the tractor like arrows and came all the way up to the windshield. It also broke the rack supports and layed the rack partly into the sleeper. No one hurt, but he learned that day that headache rack or not, you can end up just as dead. 9 times out of 10 it's not the equipment; it's the driver not knowing his/her and/or the equipment's limitations. Back in the 70's and earlier headache racks were mostly steel and for good reason. You still see them once in a blue moon. Aluminum started getting popular trying to lighten the trucks...Those racks will not protect you 100%.Here is the irony, on that day I got a $115,000 tractor trashed and legally is was not the driver's fault. But he did do something wrong. He got agitated and impatient because whenever he would adjust for proper following distance more cars would use and fill in the gap (We have all experienced this.)He finally stopped allowing proper following distance to stop other cars from filling the gap. Once he did this a car darted lanes in front of him and I got a brand new $115K tractor trashed. It's not the equipment; It's the driver. As a CMV operator you must operate safely and have infinite patience or bad shit can and will happen. This driver (at the time) at the wheel had over 30 years experience and KNEW better. In the end two simple things caused the damage. Lack of patience and over confidence. Once you think you know it all no matter how long you have been out there bad things can and will happen.
Thanks for that input swtnlnly. I hope they make it a law. A guy had to slam on brakes in NJ earlier this year. He got crush by his load after it slide through the back of his cab when he slammed on brakes to keep from rear ending a car that jumped in front of him at a light.//www.nj.com/mercer/index.ssf/2014/01/truck_driver_killed_in_pennington_crash_when_load_spills_into_cabin.htmlSure its not the only incident this year.(have to read the comments to the story for more details by people following him)
Those type of binders have been outlawed in Texas and California. Just a
heads up.
If you are going to use them in those states you damn well better have
them hidden under your tarps where DOT can't see them.
Thanks again Swtnlnly. That might save some drivers a headache down the road. Some of the smaller companies near Tx or Cali might still be using them and sending people across the lines.
