RNZAF A4 Skyhawks - The Whitehawks
Noone denies the fact the Skyhawks had reached the end of their life, but the fact the government had disbanded the RNZAF's Combat Arm Without Replacment ...
If only we still lived in the 1970s we could justify possessing A4's. It's
kinda sad how the world changes. Unfortunately aircraft are becoming
fully-automated, with experts claiming that the F-22 Rapter represents the
last generation of human-piloted military jet to be built in large numbers
-supposedly after that, drone formations will take over. So, in the end,
having A4's, F-16s, or F-22's is irrelavant, all that will be needed is a
team of computer geeks in control rooms pushing buttons.
Hers an interesting idea for you all. We are a commonwealth country right?
We are are part of the British empire right? Does it not seem strange that
if the so called empire had an interest in its citizens and its defense, we
could have got Tornado f3s or GR4s on lend lease when they the RAF retired
them from front line deployment? These are aircraft which would have been a
much more logical replacement than f-16s due to our combat requirements and
terrain.
Labour buying the F-16s was there move to try and get us into bed with
America again, with trade agreements and ANZUS. Look where that got us the
first time round. Thankfully they chickened out, or we would be more
involved in the blood lust conflicts that are occurring around the world
today. Personally I think we need 75 and 2 sqn because of our strategic
importance, should China or the USA decide to play with each other.
The New Zealand Government will always waste tax payers money no matter
what it is they do. Because of our geographical position we need an
airforce with a strike fighter wing. All our governments past and present
sit pretty in their offices when there is illegal fishing and poaching
going on in our territory.
if labour had entered power a year later we would have recieved our f-16 by
then to replace the skyhawks and still had a credible defense force, all
our air force is now is just a glorified coast guard using orions to look
for illegal fisherman and missing yachtsman, what a joke.
Negative it was National under Jenny Shipply that was looking at having the
F-16's loaned long term to NZ from the US, with the agreement of buying
them in the future, Labour decided against it and got rid of the air combat
wing.. good old labour
i was pissed of when the so called strategic defense cuts in britain
somehow came to the conclusion that our harrier force was to be cut giving
us no carrier strike force till around 2018
So sad I wanted to fly one of them we need new jets who's seen the video of
the yank saying that we have a great strike force and that we were go at
air to sea
im from britain so i may be wrong but did the NZ gouvernment say something
about using the arramachis and also training pilots to fly jets in australia
