In this video, I discuss the frequency with which you need to change your oil (hint: every three months or 3000 is wrong) and I start showing you how to change ...
Doing fine. I actually need to do another oil change this weekend according to the computer. The only problem I have with the car is unrelated to the engine: my catalytic converter went bad due to my coil pack malfunctioning and me not promptly replacing it. The car drives the same, but my emissions are as bad as a VW clean diesel right now. ;-)
7,500 miles between oil changes - no problem

+funkervogt47 Ignore the morons, your doing it correct, I also have an '05 Chevy (Malibu) and just to show the OLM works I found a job just 2.5 miles from home and since then my oil % has been dropping quickly, why?, it's simple, the OLM knows that short trips don't let the engine get up to operating temp's and the oil will get dirty much faster.
Dude, it's not 1968 anymore, engines have tighter tolerances, less "blow-by" and do not dump un-needed fuel into the car when it's warming up like a choke used to. I have the exact same OLM system in my GM and it works just fine, you are living in the past or still drive a '60's or '70's vehicle.
does it matter what oil brand you put in. if the shop says they are
putting castrol is that still a good oil. My friend says he brings his own
oil because he does not trust the mechanics oil
Yes it matters oil is not oil....,Castrol oil has a better additive package than Super Tech, for example..... AMS Oil Signature Series has the best overall longest lasting oil available in the US ..Would you want to buy Bullseye Motor Oil,? Stick with the better brands and filters..
Any oil that you buy from a major store (Wal-Mart, Pep Boys, etc.) is fine to put in your car. And in spite of advertising claims to the contrary, they're all of equal quality. The only difference that exists is between natural oil and synthetic oil. If you use synthetic, you can change the oil less often. But natural oil has worked fine for me. Your friend might be concerned that the mechanics aren't using oil specifically formulated for your car. Instead of carrying six or more different grades of oil for every possible type of car, sometimes they just carry two or three types of general grade oil which don't work as well in cars as the more specific formulations. Anyway, I've only heard people complain about that online and have never actually experience that problem myself.
+MrBusunglueck OK with it then, if the car maker says it's fine then you should be good to go, maybe BMW uses a great filter design that helps extend oil life.
