1976 FORD 250ci Inline 6
This is my new Project i picked up for $50 bucks ,im rebuilding the motor and trans and slaming it in my 1979 toyota Mini Truck , Just a short video of whats going ...
I have one of these engines which I am dropping into my 1954 Mk1 (English)
Ford Zephyr. My plan is to run a C4 auto box and 2.77:1 rear axle, which
should be good for highway use. The conversion is straightforward enough,
but funds are short and I'm doing a full nuts and bolts ground up
restoration and funds are short, so this will be a long time coming before
it's done.
How's the Hilux mini truck coming along?
i agree, defintly a larger filter is needed. i ran one of these donks with
a 5 speed supra box behind it in my xb falcon for years, plenty of grunt
and ecomical as hell (for what it was) averaged 11 litres per 100km around
town and bout 9 litres per 100km on open road. try and find yorself a 2v
head for it of a early mustang, they have a seperate intake manifold and go
like stabbed rat with tripple side drafts
Ford Australia stopped using the non cross flow head in 1976. They replaced
it with a cross flow cast iron head with a valve arrangement similar to
Cleveland V8. In 1980 they replaced the cast iron head with an aluminium
head at a third the weight of the cast head it replaced. Then in 1983 they
offered the alloy head engine with electronic fuel injection as an option.
Way back when I put one in a 71 Torino wagon with the C4......the original
351 C had a Spark plug come apart and sucked the guts into the engine...not
pretty, a friend wanted the engine to rebuild, so out it came and the 250
6 went back in...little better mileage close to same performance good
engine, also had a Fairmont with the 200 Cu in 6 good also.. have fun...
In the early eighties my neighbor and I pulled that same eng/trans combo
from my 69 Montego and we rebuilt it in his backyard. One of the
interesting things about the Ford 250 was that the intake manifold was
integral to the head, if I remember right. Even with a one barrel carb it
was a powerful engine.
Don't know for sure but I believe the 250 shares major component with the
excellent 351 Cleveland which would make it an excellent engine.
Being an unsought after 6 banger it may make very good junk 250 engines a
good source for good cheap parts. Just a thought.

Get rid of that tiny lawn mower air filter! Why do people put them on car
engines?
You want lots of SURFACE AREA. Either use the factory air cleaner set up or
the biggest open element that will fit.
