Emptying Storage Tent To Make Room For The Off Grid Battery Room

Honestly, I like most of your videos. But brother, you seem a little off
the rocker as of late. Their is a look in your eye that is a bit creepy.
Take a step back, take a breather, fly your women out next summer... I
think the pressure is getting to you a little bit.. You're pushing this way
to fast. Good things take time. GL
+The Do It Yourself World why are you SO WORRIED about your VIEWERS and THEIR opinions rather then YOUR OWN ! ! ! oh that's right you have NO SELF ESTEEM ! ! !
+Josh Holt Odd. Why would you say such a thing? I am just working hard trying to get stuff done before winter. The viewers are pushing me more than you can imagine.

KonMari Complete Series #14-A Komono: Kitchen - FOOD
Working on the ninth category in the Komono section, I have broken it down into subcategories. This is the first of six and addresses all the 'Food' items in all the ...
Don't get too stressed about food storage... Even with great
organization--food can be a constant disaster. It is used up the quickest
of anything else in your home and has to be replaced weekly or biweekly.
With that kind of turn around its very hard to stay organized in that area.
+Samantha Webb YES! I swear sometimes it's like you guys know what I need to hear. I was looking at my DIS-ASTER of a fridge today and was trying to make sense of how it can go from tidy and organized to downright embarrassing in a matter of two days. You're right, it's the turn over and the fact that for us, it's a high traffic area with little ones ransacking all spaces in the kitchen anytime they have the chance. Thank you for the validation that I'm not the only one dealing with this struggle!
I am enjoying your videos. They are so inspiring! When I saw your
breakfast cereal boxes, it reminded me of what I did with the boxes. I
opened the boxes flat, then measured and cut then taped into sleeves for
several of my larger knives that I don't keep in my knife block. It has
been a great, safe, way to store my knives while keeping them sharp.
+Barbara Gordon Oh Barbara - that sounds like a great idea for me! Are you on Facebook, if so, I'd love for you to send me a picture of it so I can truly get a visual (Facebook.com/ayoungmum). I'm glad you're enjoying my series -- thank you so much for letting me know!! :D
really enjoying your series! I haven't seen all but in case it's not
covered, I wanted to offer a suggestion for your tall deep pantry by the
fridge. I have similar, and found that what works really well for me is to
create like a drawer that you can pull out by buying some plastic baskets.
I've used small laundry baskets and now I can pull out to see things that
would have been stuck in the back. I'm sure you've figured out your set-up
but thought I'd share what worked for me. Congrats on all your success so
far!
+tracy mccormack Tracy, I really appreciate you taking the time to offer up such a great solution. First, aren't the tall pantries such a pain?! UGH!! I hate to complain, but esssh :P Anyways, I had mentioned (I believe in the video), that I'd like to look into buying inserts that serve as a pull out sort of drawer, but I believe they're really expensive - maybe a bit too much for our budget at this point. The idea of finding baskets that will work the same, sounds like a great compromise. I'm going to be on the look out. It might be a bit tricky as I find the space really narrow, but I'm sure there's something out there that will work - wish me luck!! :D Thanks again! xo
Thank you for the support, but I have very little interest in vlogging.
Maybe someday I would write a blog, but not any time soon! But you are
welcome to email me any time with questions. I did think of one thing after
I wrote those suggestions and it's this: because my daughter is a type 1
diabetic, when I unbox food into containers I take a small piece of clear
tape, with the end curled under for easy removal, and stick it to the lid
or side of the container, and write in permanent marker, on the tape so it
doesn't wear off, the carb count off the box ( ie it might say 12= 32g for
snack crackers or 1/2c=20g) for cereal, or something like that so she
doesn't have to look it up, which she doesn't do anyway!!lol
Thank you so much, I really appreciate you being so giving with your suggestions - they're all SO useful! I'll mention the idea of the carb counts to Rob, another wonderful idea!! Have a great day :)
Food storage is hard! I think you missed the opportunity for beautiful
pasta painted necklaces for grandma, or for your Christmas tree! Lol If you
want to use up extra lasagna noodles, make fake lasagna in your crock pot.
Use noodles, broken into chunks, meatballs, sauce, spices and one tub of
ricotta or cottage cheese, (mix it all together to cook), add a little
shredded cheese on top when its all heated through. If you use precooked
meatballs it's really a fast dinner.
Here are some other suggestions. Keep one kind of pasta at a time, and
store in the container you need to hold the largest size you regularly buy.
So tall and skinny if you eat spagetti alot, just make sure it will also
hold ziti, or elbow etc. Change pasta type each time you run out. Maybe two
types with small kids if you eat alot of pasta. Same with snack crackers.
One container to hold the largest size that you buy, switch cracker types
each week, so, one week triscuits, the next ritz or whatever. I like Oxo
containers with popping lids that give a slight vacuum seal. Plus you will
be eating up all the snacks before they can go stale. Two containers for
cereal, is good, one healthy, one junky is how we do it. No buying new
until the old is gone. I unbox almost everything, or try to buy in bulk so
less packaging. Same goes for treats/candy, one container with one kind at
a time. You should check out the website for the Zero Waste Home, that's
where I got the one container idea, although she uses glass, and I have
plastic. Now there is one organized mom! Lol Also You can buy clear plastic
holders for soda cans, the kind they roll out of in the front, and I use
those in my pantry, one for soup, and one for miscellaneous, since I don't
buy canned fruit or veggies, but you could do one for canned fruit, one for
canned veggies etc. You can also buy inexpensive wire shelving (Costco has
a kind that is flat wire instead of round, and quite sturdy), to add
shelves in the pantry where you have more height. I also use clear plastic
bins in my fridge, one labelled meat/cheese, one fruit, one veggies, that's
apart from my crispers, which I don't find work at all! We use one for
beer/wine/soda and one for larger trays like fruit, veggie or cheese trays
or boxes of pie/cake etc.. Keeps stuff from disappearing in the back of the
fridge and rotting. I use one skinny clear plastic container for bottles
that don't fit in the door. I have a very small fridge 18 cu ft, for a
family of 4 so it has to stay organized. I label every container, but maybe
you could label with pictures?
Please store your flour in the freezer, in sealed plastic. It keeps longer
and kills any weevils (I know it's a gross thought)! Also unless you buy
more food, you could save a ton on energy for your deep freezer by filling
up the bottom with the same size, clean cardboard boxes with a big bag or
two of ice in each one, the boxes act like a level shelf. Just leave the
ice in year round and don't use it for cocktails ;) I love kitchen storage
so let me know if you want any other suggestions :)
Loving this series, and wondering what areas I should revisit with this
method? Maybe my medicine storage box.
+jayathome First, YOU need to start making videos. I'll be your subscriber AND biggest fan. I took all your suggestions and copied them into my notebook. Every single one of them made complete sense to me and I only wish I had thought of them a long time ago - simple and doable - my kind of tasks! I love the idea of the ice in the deep freeze, I actually thought of just getting rid of it altogether. We hardly have anything stored in there and it's a big energy drain - though in thinking about it, our freezer upstairs is the worst and holds almost nothing... hmmm... I'll have to sit on this. Thank you again and again. If you have more suggestions, I would be most grateful. I'm mentally gearing up for the organizing stage and need all the help and guidance I can get! xx
I used to end up with a lot more miscellaneous foods before I did meal
planning but I still end up with the most random stuff hanging out in the
cupboards! We recently moved house though so we haven't been in our new
place long enough to have extras lying about yet. You look like you did a
good job! This should probably be done every few months even if just for
freshness reasons. :) Also, maybe look into clear containers for your
crackers so that they're more accessible and will stay fresh longer. Why do
you store your pancake syrup in the fridge?
Sounds like you have a good plan! I am excited to hear how it goes! About the syrup, I know that maple syrup needs to be stored in the fridge but I don't think the other stuff does (we use the fake stuff too!). I have seen people store peanut butter in the fridge too!
Funny enough, as my husband was getting ready for work this morning, I suggested we sit down tonight and do a menu plan for the coming week so we can buy accordingly this weekend. Now I'm just sitting down to reply to comments and yours is the first one I see, making the very same suggestion - it's a sign! haha Anyways, we live very handy to our grocery store and our current routine is such that Rob stops by the store on his way home from work and buys what we need for that night's supper. There's two problems with this current process: we don't shop according to what's on sale (and surprisingly, I'm typically a bargain shopper or at least try to be) and second, he tends to pick up non-essentials including treats (see my most recent series on trying to get back on track with healthy eating :P). So, we're going to give this new solution a go and I have a good feeling it's going to remedy a lot of our current issues. Clear containers, good idea - I'm on the lookout! Pancake syrup in the fridge, I actually have no idea! It's likely not necessary... hm, I'm going to ask Rob if he knows - you now have me wondering!

I saw a tip today that might work for your drawers. This gal used spring
loaded curtain rods in her drawer to section it off so stuff didn't shift
around. Don't know if you've found a solution yet, but wanted to pass this
along. Enjoyed all of your Konmari videos. I liked that you talked it out
rather than just showing befores and afters. Thanks for all the time you
spent doing them!
Hello! Thank you for taking the time to comment, I always appreciate when people like yourself take the time to reach out, it's so encouraging to me! Love the idea about the suspension rods... I actually think I've seen that idea before and forgot about it, so thank you for the reminder!
Tip my mother taught me for the utensil drawer is to face all handles to
the back. They drawer is less likely to get stuck on something that way
plus things are easier to find. She also taught me to store pots unstacked
with the lids on, this way you don't have to stack and unstack them when
you want a certain pot and you don't get lazy to put them away.
+EvelynGB That makes COMPLETE sense. I'm going to reshuffle the drawer around and see if I can implement this. Thanks so much for letting me know, I really appreciate the suggestion. Mums always know best!
Hi, I have been following your posts from the start and loving it! You are
such a sweetie doing this, because lets face it, you have beautiful
children and a life also, and its so tiring going through stuff. I actually
did this decluttering thing before konmari took off, so did not have a
constructive guide to follow, consequently my house looked as though it had
been ransacked by thieves for a couple of months! Its done now, but I still
am trying to whittle and whittle to make for an easier life. Good luck
darling, looking forward to the next vlog! XX
Its weird you know because I kind of did follow the steps, albeit subconciously, I started initially because I moved my bedroom into a smaller quieter room, so there fore had to condense all my stuff, and it just would not fit! We tend not to have lovely walk in closets in the UK, just storage, wardrobes etc, so this is how I started to purge, So once I had done my clothes, the rest seemed to follow automatically? Then once my bedroom was finished, I actually became aware of the volume of things I had around me, which is clearly what konmari makes you aware of - and its a good thing! Overall though, the task is enormous, I feel, for anyone who undertakes decluttering, I hope that kind of answers your question, as I think anything that just makes us aware of what a hamster wheel we sometimes get on to with regards to consumption, can only BE good. Love to you from the UK. Suze xxx
+Moon Maiden Ah, what a sweet comment - I really appreciate it. I'm in the middle of utter chaos and to be honest, it can feel a bit defeating - it's nice to know people like yourselves have gone through it and survived - ha! Though you didn't do the KonMari method, do you feel like the order and way in which you chose to go through your home, effective? I'd love to know. I am hearing a lot more negative things about this method then I had when I first started, could be just funny timing... Please keep in touch! xx

Heidi, thank you for appreciating my detail (I'm a detail freak, and it's not always appreciated - haha)! I'm excited to start in on C - baking, I have more to go through than cooking - but it'll be good to get through it. I've always wanted to visit Louisiana!!!
