How-to Install Grade Crossings - N, HO & O scale | Model Scenery | Woodland Scenics
Learn to install realistic Wood Plank or Steel Plate Grade Crossings on your model railroad layout. Grade Crossings - Wood Plank - O, HO & N Scale (C1145, ...
+Woodland Scenics when I get bachman train sets and I use my very detailed locomotives on the crossings the plows hit the plastic, so this video was very helpful for my problem.
If you use this with MTH O scale RealTrax you will have to cut back the
grades wood planks inside the rails due to the flanges of a MTH freight car
will not clear the flange way! Use a Dremel sanding tool or sanding paper
or sanding block to cut it back so your flanges will clear! You will have
to cut back past the rail plates on the crossties to make enough room! Do
this before gluing down and check it a couple of times and make sure the
car is not riding up or picking it and cause a derailment! It takes about
10 minutes to do it with a Dremel tool! After it clears flanges then glue
it down! It is a must do!
The instructions recommend cyanoacrylate adhesive (aka super glue/CA glue). We used the particular brand Zap-A-Gap Medium CA+ adhesive, however any brand of super glue/CA glue will work.
Hi. I know you said you don't do a curved shaped one, but my question is
could you take one of these and shape it to the curve you want to use it on?
Jon
Hello Luke...no, they are not available in a curved shape. We have had other modelers ask about making them curved. The problem is that there are too many different radii for track, that we could not possibly make them all. I will certainly send your question to our Product Development department for consideration. Thanks!
Arduino N Scale Grade Crossing
Arduino and some photocells make a simple warning system.
There is a really cool, and hard idea for a single track grade crossing
that my dad did for my layout that again, is much more time saving.
What to do:
1. buy an EZ track grade crossing
2. Replace the bulbs with some really small, working bulbs that flash red
3. Wire the crossing to a switch
4. Test it. You will want to make sure it works before installing it.
5. Put it on your layout.
Does anybody know any blueprints of a double track HO scale 4x6 layout? If
so, please reply.
Another great video, looks great to see that engine run through the there!
May be a dumb question but do you have a install video on those signals or
are they like self motorized and just needed wire connections?
+John Harris They are plug and play from MTH, I would have done a how to video but MTH hasn't released these since 2010 and they are impossible to find so I didn't want to make a video that wouldn't currently help anyone.
When I did my grade crossings I just used the smooth it right over the trucks. As it dried I used an old truck and run it through the crossing A number of times to make the flange way. it turned out not to bad and have had no issues with it.
Nice James! Will you be adding the RR Xing warning on the road leading up
to the crossing and the two white lines at the edge of the roadway? Also,
who makes the grade crossing signals? How did you set them up to operate?
Thanks!
Tim
+tmh57 MTH makes the crossing gates and I'll add the other lines later.

Hello Joseph that's because I recorded myself simultaneously through 2
microphones - the one on my laptop (which sounds horrible) and a good
quality mic via logic (recording software). To save time I only lined up
the violin sound with the video. If you'd like any more tips or advice on
how to make a recording please do get in touch! Good luck with your F major
scale.
I found your scales beautiful for grade1, thanks for sharing, very helpful,
thank you so much for sharing! Again a very soothing warm violin sound,
never ever boring if heard a thousand times!
How come when shes talking the recording sounds horrible, yet all of the
sudden, it sounds like a perfect studio recording when she plays? A bit
fishy to me...
I spent the evening building the crossing at the intersection of Sumner and Miller Sts. on the Santa Fe just west of Kern Jct. in Bakersfield. I still need to tweak the ...
