2015 All-Chrysler Nationals | 2012 Dodge Charger Super Bee | Steve Magnante
After more than a century of making trouble, we craft muscle cars, compacts, crossovers and SUVs with massive doses of attitude. Built for top performance ...
+Todd C Duh, I know it's a Holden product. Holden is a subsidiary of the American GM company. It's American. If that's the case the Charger and Challenger aren't American being built in Canada. And plenty of people have called the CTS-V a muscle car. Since you bring up Mercedes, people call the C63 AMG the German Muscle Car. A supercharged v8 in a RWD platform built in the U.S? Amaerican Muscle.
+Auto Young The Chevy SS is Australian and is no longer imported I believe. Chevy is closing down the Holden plant in Auz. I don't think anyone ever called the CTS-V a muscle car. It is more in the class of Mercedes or BMW.
Only in America... That's not exactly a good thing. Dodge seriously needs
to expand to right hand drive markets with more than the Journey in the
near future
Jeremy Clarkson said that nobody would purchase Muscle cars in Europe, because of their size, and their brashness. It would be like turning up too the Queen's Garden Party in Chromed Cowboy boots.
As such, the Challenger and Charger Hellcats are a fascinating flare before the boisterous, petrol-guzzling flame goes out. Their supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 ...
@chadt4 Hey, Thanks! :) Sorry, I messed up when I said that, it was
actually my grandfathers brother who owned the 71 Super Bee with a 383, it
is orange. One of his grand sons is having the car restored, so hopefully
it will be back on the road soon. Maybe we can set up a race between it and
my son's 72 Charger with the new 440 in it :) Yeah, folks around town swore
he was gonna kill himself, since he WASN'T easy on the gas pedal!!! :) As
far as I know, he never even got in an accident,
@gunhawk22 Unfortunately he passed away about 10 years ago, but yes he was
a very wise person, and he had an incredible memory. He filled us in on
lots of stuff about our old relatives, that we otherwise would never have
known. The car is currently being restored back to original condition. I
will post a vid of it when I get to see it (cousins now own the car) Take
care.
1971. The only year of the Charger Super Bee. That is because, in 71 the
Charger was returned to the Coronet line-up. Hence the WM in the VIN. From
68 to 70 the Charger was its own model. Hence the XP in the VIN. My Bee is
dark Bronze Metallic. 383 Magnum. AT w/AC. I've owned it since 79.
The 70's. The greatest decade ever. Best clothes, best music, girls with
long straight hair, best TV, best movies, the drive-in and going to it in
the best cars 1970 'Cuda, Superbird, Challenger, Nova SS, Boss 429, man
talk about American Muscle at it finest 1970 was the year!!!
THAT is beautiful! You can hear every cylender popping, and that idle makes
me remember High School days when these were new. Constant burnouts in the
student parking lot. Good times, great cars! Thanks so much for sharing your
4 star car! Peace.
Thinking of buying one of these for 15k, but Im not sure. It still has all
of the superbee paraphernalia on it, and its numbers matching, but all the
laser stripes are missing. I wonder how one would go about putting them
back on?
Nice job in taking off the vinyl top. I'm replacing mine right now and it
is costing me 5k with all the rust underneath! Also, wish you had the
Magnum 500 wheels, but still a beauty of a car!
@D353rt34g13 oh man could you imagine if those tree hugger people did the
same thing to these cars as the peta people do to people with fur coats but
with paint. I think I would kill someone
when i was a young paperboy, one of my customers (a 70+ year old) traded in
his 63 Imperial on this exact car! talk about grabbing some
attention...lol. the coolest car in the neighborhood
Hey there! i'm looking at a 72 Satellite with the 383 magnum in it. Just
wondering how the power out of those engines were. Sounds nice. just
curious though please respond. ps nice ride!
I retract my previous statement. It seems R/T tail lights came with
body-colored bumpers on Super Bees. Havent had anyone confirm this, just a
common trend ive noticed
most of the vehicles i own are fords but my dream car is a 71 charger with
the 440, I still love my fords but am also glad ford isnt owned by the
italians ; )
As we all know, Super Bee is just nostalgic. From the Coronet Super Bee as
late as 1970, and then the 1971 Charger Super Bee, it was just affordable
muscle for those who didn't want all the options, it was just raw,
affordable horsepower. It's sold pretty well back in the day and I've seen
a couple in my area already. Except, I like all the creature comforts, so I
would buy an SRT. Well the 2013 SRT is going to have launch control in late
availability, and there's a Daytona package coming!!
The idea is PERFECT, just not executed as well as it should be. I want all
of the SRT equipment without any of the BS luxury frills. I dont need
heated and cooled cup holders, i dont need on-screen navigation, i dont
need 16-speaker sound systems..in fact i dont even want that crap, its
retarded. I want all of the performance equipment without any of the added
weight and cost of the luxury cheesy luxury crap. This car does it well but
not well enough. Its still too expensive. Get it to $40k
I have to put in my 2 cents I don't have the superbee I do have the fully
loaded SRT and I gotta say the 5 speed trans in many cases is perfect.
Drive an 8 gear automatic and you will find that the car spends a lot of
time trying to find the right gear. And of course there is the complaint of
rev matching. I for one want to feel it when I drop down two gears as it
slams into gear. I can say leave the smooth easy feeling trans for the
Oldsmobile
I bought one new for 40k :D I agree it's not really worth more than that...
well maybe 45k. The car is not cheesy I feel and there isn't any of those
things you listed but I would hazard a guess that you were using hyperbole.
There aren't that many features on the car and it feels to me like a
genuine muscle car.
You're looking at it the wrong way. Not everyone can afford a top of the
line SRT 8. This car allows someone who is on a budget to still have a bit
of fun with their ride. I bought a 2012 base Charger SE a month ago and
believe me it is not crap. A super bee is just an improvement on an already
great car.
@990abod - The Super Bee is less expensive, but comes without the
adjustable suspension that the SRT8 gets. It also doesn't have the
big-ticket infotainment package of the SRT8. And the Super Bee doesn't
include leather seats or a few other little gadgets.
The Super Bee started in 68' as a response to the Roadrunner. Its a
fantastic idea, especially by todays standards when cars are so loaded with
idiotic options that buying a small airplane might be a cheaper alternative
lol
There just aren't enough people out there like us to sway manufacturers
away from all of the bells and whistles BS. A REAL muscle car is stripped
down to bare bones after it's drive train is given an entire pack of Viagra.
Bleh...Imagine if they retro'd the REAL Super Bee body which was NOT 4
door. Screw that...Imagine if they retro'd the Super Bird....WOWOOWOW...ok
im awake now.
I have this exact same car (2012 Yellow Superbee). I gotta say, I love it.
It is fast, handles great and fits my need for a big, 4 door fast sporty
car.
You probably saved alot of money over the regular SRT 8 too. I just bought
a 2012 SE and love it. But if I upgrade I will go for the Black Superbee. :)
