trying to upload photos of the leaking sunroof now. it's not longer stopped
from draining from the bottom but somewhere between the sunroof tray where
the water is collecting on drivers side as it goes down side of windshield,
if I press that plastic piece that has like a square cut out of it (the
square isn't pulled out but you can see it's a separate piece) water comes
leaking out. today it was then also in the fabric running above drivers
door window. I felt into sunroof drain hole but couldn't feel any debris.
it must need to be air blown or snaked out?
against the footwell drain is totally clear, i.e., the leak is collecting
and over flooding along the left side of windshield and over drivers side
door.
any suggestions?
Great detail for the Sun Roof Fix about leaks ... let me embellish with
these thoughts.
We have a 2007 Jeep Commander with NO SUNROOF and yet on the 'passenger's
side grab handle fastener cover' collects and drips rain or wash water down
the inside windshield pillar plus drips come from the passenger side kick
panel and wets the rug. Nothing on the driver's side. That's dry. It leaks
sitting in the drive way.
The water occurs above the dash so it's not the air inlet between the
windscreen and the hood, by the wipers.
I'm thinking that the windshield leaks in the upper right hand side. It's
here where water finds it's way in. If not the glass than the screws that
hold the factory roof rack to the sheet metal roof panel might leak.
Since I'm a sail boater, serious consideration is to do the following.
1~Close up the body using the servo-motors for as many body ventilation air
inlets as possible.
2~Pressurize the body by opening the backseat window enough for the hose of
my shop vacuum to be inserted and seal up the remaining window opening with
corrugated paper and tape.
3~Push the Exhaust from a shop vacuum into the body and wait about 1/2 an
hour to assure all possible pressure.
4~Standing on a ladder squirt 'Leak Seek' onto the top and sides of the
windshield where the glass is set in a black sealer surround and wait for
the bubbles showing the leak. Identify and dry the areas.
5~Once the leak is identified...
6~Reverse the shop vacuum hose and try to pull a negative pressure inside
the Commander's body.
7~West Marine sells 3-M 5200 slow set in black. This product flows for
about a hour before setting up. So put a bead around the windscreen and see
if the 3-M 5200 slow set will be drawn into the leak over a very long time.
An hour or so.
That's the plan. Any thoughts? Even without a Sun Roof does the 'A' pillar
supporting the windscreen have any drain tubes or pockets that need to be
cleaned out to channel water to under the body? Maybe the drain tubes for a
Sun Roof are there with or with out an actual Sun Roof? [why design and
manufacture two different 'A' pillars?]
SIDE BAR: We made in ground swimming pools where the hole is lined with
sand and a vinyl liner is pulled tightly down to conform to the sand by
using four or five shop vacs running for 12 hours. Works great!
Allpar Forums: Imperial Crown says on Jeep Commander Water leaks generally run down [gravity] and back [road draft]. The 'water test' with a garden hose on a low pressure stream to simulate a heavy rainfall is the common shop method and is covered in the service or shop manual, or any shop manual for that matter as the procedure is similar between models. Removal of some interior trim components [like A-pillar trim] may help locate where it is coming in visually.Water drip trails that have dried may appear as whitish streaks. From your description, it does sound like a windshield glass weatherstrip leak. The molding bead around the glass may have to be lifted slightly to inject a sealer.
A tip if you unclog the bottom and the top and still no flow: I used a foot
pump from an exercise ball; it was too hard to get to the opening at the
top, so I just poured some water into the roof drain, then firmly attached
the tapered hose of the ball pump to the bottom of the drain hose. One
good stomp of my foot on the pump sent air bubbles out through the top and
then water and debris just rushed out when I removed the pump from the
bottom
+Kristin Healy Good idea ! And I thought pumps for exercise balls had no value ...How-a-bout a Turkey Baster shot with soapy water? Soap has surfactants in it that don't allow 'dirt' to re-attach to each other to create a larger plug of dirt.
Water Leak In A 2003 Monte Carlo - Auto Repair Wilmington D
Welcome to Buckley's Auto Care, //www.buckleysautocare.com. 302-999-8285. Today we have a Chevy Monte Carlo with a severe water leak that ...
I had this exact same problem with my 04 MC! After I resolved it I
discovered another leak coming from the top corner of the driver door. Do I
need to replace the molding on the inside of the jamb or both jamb and door
rubber gaskets? Any help would be awesome.
Rain, rain didn't go away. It came down from the front glass, went into the
HVAC box, onto the flooring, shorted the Body Control Module, air bag
module and basically made a huge, costly mess for the owner.
For at least the 2002+ Pontiac Grand Am , Grand prix, Chevy Monte Carlo,
and Chevy Impalas you can use GM part# 15794785 , only $4 and its a water
deflector for the cowl.
sunroof repairs are one of the worst things to have to do on a car. I know
land rovers are pretty difficult to work on in general but sunroof repairs
in any car are a royal pain to have to deal with
did you figure this out? I'm having the same problem. Mechanic told me I
could buy a new assembly, but I think there must be a more reasonable
solution. Both sides are out, the top mount light is working.
any ideas why my bottom two brake lights are not working but the upper high
mounted one is? The bulbs are ok, and all other lights are working. Any
ideas would be apprieciated.
