Over the next few weeks, I will be showing how to choose the best RAM for your system. Watch the whole series if you want, or just watch the parts you need to ...
+TadpoleTech I agree with NeutronStream, great video, make more, I also subbed, I'm building a PC on Friday I hope (first time builder), here's a pic of some of me parts://i.imgur.com/ZYd4pc1.jpg
Thank you for the kind feedback! I do plan on making more videos, I've just been swamped lately and haven't gotten around to it. There is a video that I'm about halfway done with though, I just need to find time to finish it.

How to Build a Computer - 5 - Choosing RAM

01:12 I have to disagree there. A common misconseption with computers is
that RAM directly affects performance. This is not true. Only high end
video editors and similar programs use anything over 8GB. Going any higher
will not increase performance at all, you're just wasting money. Better to
get a better CPU or a decent heatsink, rather than waste it on something
you don't use. If you are looking for a gaming or causal build, then 8GB is
maximum you need. Even battlefield 3 only uses 4GB RAM.
@1kiiler15 If you are looking at buying computer parts the best place to do
it is (newegg . com) @earthworm768 Yes DDR3 is still the best PC memory
@FedorMP96 You have to make sure the motherboard is compatible with the
memory. So if your motherboard is DDR2 Compatible, you cant go and put DDR3
Memory in to it. If you are looking to build a computer you guys should
really check out (elitepcbuilding . com) it covers just about any computer
questions you could have as well as picking parts out.

@MultiGoban Well, how often will most people blow up huge amounts of TNT in
minecraft? Even in 32 gigs, it'll crash if you don't have a good CPU. Going
from 2x4gb to 8x4gb costs an additional $120, which really isn't worth it.
I was just disagreeing to how he says that getting more ram is better.
You'll see a difference going from 1gb to 2gb. Perhaps at bit from going to
2gb to 4gb. Anything more won't make much difference, unless you are using
high end editing programs.
I brought some RAM which should have fit (off ebay). But on closer
inspection it says 1Rx4 on it which apparently means it's high density and
won't work in 99% of desktops! So I got screwed. Didn't know anything about
High and low density before hand. Hopefully this is still relevant, I'm not
that up to date with PC tech.
I just bought 2 gig DDR2 card for my 2007 laptop. IT IS SO MUCH FASTER. I
had a two 512MB DDR2 cards in my laptop. I wish my laptop could go up to 4
gigs. I paid $599 for my laptop. Now its slightly more powerful then the
Netbooks. :( Is it cheaper to build your own computer then it is to buy one
already built?
@Cryo53 what sort of power supply would i need? > i am going to have a
3.2ghz pentium dual core, 8gb ram and a hd5770, then just a memory card
reader, cd drive and one internal hard drive do i need a 500W or will 400w
be plenty? i know its a bit ambiguous because you dont have these parts to
see, but roughly :P
quick question. I have a new PC hat I use for designing my website. It has
6GM ram right now, but I can put up to 16GB. Do you think/suggest I should
MAX out the ram right now? or just do incremental upgrades? Also,I tend to
keep my computers until I really need an upgrade.
well....he did say last tutorial that "it needs to be compatible with the
case we're going to buy" and he patted his desktop pc...so i dont think
so...but understanding this can seriously help with laptop
development...and remember, the desktop came before the laptop!
honestly ive compared 8 gig to 16 gig, i use 16 gig off gskill ripsaws in
my rig, and when you are quad boxing it makes a difference, also, have you
ever tried to run 32 ssd's in parallel with less than 16 gig of ram? lol
"more than you ever need" yeah... um if i remembered correctly u chose 1
gb... that really isn't much at all lol aftere my christmas upgrades, i
have 16GB DDR3 at 160Mhz, cause RAM is just so cheap now lol
wait wait wait. so if i get 3 gigs of ddr ram that is the same as having 1
gig of ddr3 ram? cuz i heard my pc can only make use of 3-4gigs but are you
saying 4gigs of ddr3 is the same as 12gigs of ddr?
i am a big computer geek i know alot about computers i can fic a computer i
can build a computer from scratch i love anything that has to do with
computers my faviort brand of computers is hp
lol now there is DDR5 RAM for video cards and DDR3 is the main use for
normal RAM... 2 years and the video is starting to get outdated but the
info is still relevant so thanks
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THESE VIDEOS. At least i know about the compatibility
thingy on motherboards and other parts. newegg makes it easier! i just need
the moolah..
it deos not mater how much ram you have! You can have 167 gb of low power
ddr3 and 4 gb of high power and the 4gb of higher power ddr3 will be much
better
This video is wierd... When i fullscreen it, the bottom of the video is
elongated and blurred... OH yeah, Nice tutorial!
