+PhilmFreak if you are going to soak it, you will need to take it completely apart and only soak the copper parts. If you try to soak the whole thing then the remote electronics will be ruined. Also, after you take the coating off it will start to tarnish. I buffed it out right before I filmed it. I hope this helps.

+PhilmFreak thank you. I soaked the piece for 24 hours in a degreaser that I bought from Home Depot. After that the clear coating lifted and I was able to scrub it off with a green scouring pad.
