I love the boxster, my first Porsche was a boxster, then a 996. Just a tip for anyone looking to buy a boxster, just because the cars can be bought cheap doesn't mean they are cheap cars. Make sure the car has been well maintained and have a PPI from a Porsche mechanic, a USED engine alone can cost almost $8,000...a new engine is $15k! I had the misfortune of having the IMS problem at 78,000 miles and had to replace the engine..definitely hurt. Unfortunately that is a defect of the boxster from

But I still love the BOXSTER, such a great car, very fun and a definite attention grabber. My childhood dream cars were the Classic Porsche 356 Speedster and 550 Spyder and the Boxster definitely brings those cars back but with the modern luxury. Highly recommend if you can swing the expensive maintenance costs..it is a Porsche afterall. E.g front and back brakes will run close tl $2k, a New engine almost $15K, tune up $500+++ and so on.

And just to be clear, not bringing up the maintenqnce and repair costs to scare anyone..just wanna warn anyone who is considering a boxster due to how low a price you can huy one for. An engine alone is as valuable as the car! But costs aside, I promise you will be hard pressed to find a car as fun as this. Even though I love the 996, I want another Boxster...

well Robbie im gonna need your help sir. Im glad were talking about the cost of repairs. Lord willing in 2015 ill be getting a Porsche. Is the the 911 a better deal. I just don't want to be forking out tones of money for the repairs. please help

well the the porsche boxsters body stays the same from 1997- 2004 and 2005 and up the body has really minor changes. so i mean if your driving a 97 its the same as driving an 04

luckily engine failures only happen for the first boxsters from 1998.. the 2000+ models usally never have failure and if then it shouldnt be a complete breakdown

A well maintained car with scheduled oil change should never need an engine flush. The problem with chemical engine flush is that you never be able to completely drain it out and since it breaks down sludge, it will also break down engine oil which is not something you want.

+Henry Ting The oil intervals on a Porsche 997 are about 20K miles which is too long in my book personally. Porsche probably did this so that the car could meet environmental standards.
