Eric, you're right about the ninja; it can't even compare to the vita-mix.
it's a work horse; during summer we make ice cream nearly everyday. we've
made innumerable smoothies and milkshakes and I feel safe letting my young
nieces and nephews use it with supervision of course.
I've thought about upgrading, maybe I will some day, but for now I'm
satisfied......really, did I just say that, lol.
+Felicia Harris If you have the classic Vitamix, there's really nothing to 'upgrade' as it is fully capable as you know. The 'new generation' motor difference in mine is that it has cooling on at all speeds where the older models only feature the cooling on the highest speed, thus mine is less likely to overheat under heavy load at lower speeds. It's not as tall either, but the wider jar has it's negatives in that it can't mix really small batches of stuff (since it takes more stuff to get it noticed by the blades). So yours has more flexibility in that regards. I don't really mix really small batches of stuff, so no biggie. One example would be chili powder. If you only need a tiny amount, I think yours would be better as it can do smaller batches. I prefer to use a regular blender (with glass jar) than my Vitamix with plastic jar for making fresh chili powder (due to the plastic absorbs and retains the chili smell long after washing it). And this is way better than using a coffee grinder as a spice grinder. We've had nothing but headaches using various coffee grinders for chili powder. eeehhh. OK. enough for now.
+Felicia Harris Thanks. Well, this video kinda dates ours. I've made smoothies on it 5 days a week since that video. Most are too thick for a normal blender (aka my reference to killing the KA Architect that is pretty, but not durable). 8 years is incredible. I have no complaints with this. Turns on every day with no funny electrical smells nor any cracked jars. Blades are still sharp and cutting thru frozen blueberries sounds like gravel, but it never fails to grind them up so you don't notice you are drinking blueberries. I doubt the Ninja! can claim that.
+pajamagirl123 Glad you love it. And just think....I actually 'considered' buying a Ninja! instead because it was on sale at Macy's for a fraction of the price of the Vitamix....but someone did a comparison video and the unsafe blades in the Ninja! and the fact it tends to shred and not pulverize things was the other big issue. My smoothies feature a cup of frozen blueberries that sound like I'm chopping up gravel (rocks). Yet, it doesn't come out gritty or anything. No seeds to bother you. It really blends it all up. It will thicken up a bit if I let it sit, like when we are driving to work. But I drink mine right away so it is really smooth and tasty. Once again, glad you love yours and that this didn't disappoint you. Thanks for sharing your experience!
I love it!! It blends and chops everything perfectly. Totally worth the buy and I plan on keeping it forever. I took it to work one day to make smoothies and convinced my coworker to buy one because he loved mine so much.
+pajamagirl123 I'm sure you'll be happy with it. The 5200 is the classic standard. The only thing is with the 'new generation', they increased the motor cooling by designing the fan to run at all speeds instead of only on high with the previous models. That's about the only negative thing I can think of. Mine is big and wide. I think the others are taller, so as long as they fit under cabinets, if that's an issue, then you should be ok. I really racked my brain with this decision because of the other brands and not wanting to spend $400 on a blender. I think watching Youtube videos comparing Vitamix to Ninja showing how the Vitamix purees and the Ninja would only shred certain things was a good selling point. The unsafe blades in the Ninja were scary. Unsafe in that you can remove them and you must be careful when handling them. With the Vitamix, I just squirt a drop of soap, fill with water, and run on high for a minute. No need to touch the blades. Prior to buying it, we may have made some margaritas a few times a year. Definitely didn't make any smoothies, except for the five that killed the KA blender. So as long as you plan on using it, then you should be fine. By saving some money on your purchase reduces your risk a bit. Let me know how it goes and how you end up using it.
You convinced me! I placed an order for a refurbished red Vitamix 5200. If I had the funds I would have bought the same one as you with the shorter container. I can't wait til it arrives!!
Thank you Pajamagirl, I'm glad you liked the video. I usually only become attached to things like shiney new power tools, like chainsaws, mowers, table saws, blowers, etc. Red and orange are my favorites. For me to fall in love with a blender is like me picking out a flavor of bath soap. It just isn't gonna happen. But, I've been using this thing daily for a year making smoothies, with quite a few of them being so thick, that I've had to add more liquid and or use that plastic tamper thing. The Kitchen Aid Architect is a 'pretty' looking blender and worked fine as long as you weren't crushing too much ice at a time. But let me tell you, every morning, after I add the fresh fruit and juice and then add my frozen fruit, especially the blueberries, it sounds like I just added BBs to it. Like I'm crushing gravel. and after a few seconds, that sound goes away and the blue berries are pulverized and my smoothie takes on a blue color. It is total magic. Every Day!!!! Now that is something to be excited over or what? I can seriously count on this thing. The other day, Amy made some fresh chili powder. While this jar is designed for wet ingredients, not the dry ones because of the angle of the blades, it powered right thru those dry chili pods and created the most fragrant chili smell I have ever smelled. That was magic. Well, thanks for watching and your comment.
We used it three times this weekend. It is amazing! It is expensive but worth the money. I will be posting the videos by this weekend. You would love it!
Julia Child at the CIA 1990
Julia Child, a dear friend and long-time supporter of the CIA, and member of the college's Hall of Fame, visited our Hyde Park campus in 1990 for a special event ...
@2dasimmons We still have her Jacques Pepin who hosted her final cooking
show with her in 1999, and Sarah Moulton, the very talented host of Cooking
Live that was on the Food Network back when it was still worth watching who
worked under Julia on her cooking with more company show. And we have
talented home cooks who are still learning with Julia. However, there is
only one Julia.
If I remember correctly it was the wacs who turned her down because of her
height, or at least that is the story. I've not researched it to see if it
is true or not.
i learned in french class that she wanted to be a spy but the OSS would
never let her due to her height and her voice she would have a hard time
blending in
When it said CIA, for some reason [though I knew it was Julia Child we are
talking about], my mind automatically went to "Central Intelligence
Agency".

+Grace Qianyuan Wang Reagan ran up the debt to a height unseen since WWII. However, he raised taxes later in his administration a number of times. The current GOP has erased that last part from memory.
Agreed, i just hate the Bush's and don't believe in royal families that control the country for 2 decades. At least change their last names andd be a lil more clever
+Grace Qianyuan Wang Incredibly bought and paid for buy the saudi's. Over 1 Billion dollars in campaign contributions from the Saudi's, Who does he work for anyway? Oh yeah we only pay 200k to be president, the saudi;s pay 100 million per year. lol. I ask again w ho does he work for?
+Grace Qianyuan Wang You think Youtubers are stupid? We're not. You haven't fooled 1 single person.nobody would EVER say such a thing about Jeb Bush and you're not a real person... Stand with Rand!
