Ejected or Not? You Make the Call 6/6/15
Do you think this catcher was protecting the plate, or were these elbows not necessary? You be the umpire and make the call. For high school sports news, ...
I play softball and an incident like that happened yesterday, the cater kept
elbowing people as the came into Home....I stormed up to her and yelled do
it again! But nooo the umpire stopped me.
I may be alone on this, but I think the runners bear some of the blame here
because they are running right at her shoulder. Even if the catcher had
not moved a muscle, there would have been significant contact. I get that
she's in/near the base path, but it's also a completely uncontested play at
the plate, so it would have been trivial to take that path 6 inches off her
shoulder that allows a free and clear step on home plate. These runners
were looking for contact.
+royalgk Your an idiot. Read the rules. Defensive players cannot block the lane, bag or plate without the ball. The runners by rule have unimpeded access to the baseline in this situation.
Is there a story on this anywhere? Specifically an interview with her coach
or the umpire? Not as surprised by her poor choices as I am the lack of
discipline until after this made national headlines. I saw the statement by
the head whomever that said he stands behind her and I found it pitiful.
'We support our student athlete, not this action'. If you truly supported
her, she would have known better than to do what she did. Then you play the
victim because she is getting threats? lol. Don't blame the world. You and
your staff failed and you are blaming everyone else instead of being
accountable.
No they haven't spoke to anyone. From what I can gather her friends/ family/ people from Needville/ her select team/ all are supporting her. Same are saying that it worked so she should do it again, some are claiming she was defending herself. The statement from the head of needville ISD is the only statement.

Great job Matt. Rodney is a good friend of the family as is his entire
family. Not only is Rodney a phenom on the football field he is the most
humble and honest kids I have ever met. You couldn't have picked a better
person to highlight.

There is NO WAY one of the three umps visible in this video did not see
that. Cannot believe there was no brawl. I would not have been able to
resist. Good on Huffman Lady Falcons(which really could be truncated to
the Huffman Falcons,,..as Falcons are not necessarily male)
+Mark Smith its possible most of us whom do umpire as i am youth umpire i done kids at high school level.. we can't overrule are parnter... if he asked or she asked what i saw i can tell her what i saw but i have no authoirty to over rule my parnter at any point clearly though in a case like this if plate umpire didn't see it... than i have to infromed him to watch it... he fail again they be ejected... i was doing fallball game for babe ruth baseball... and a runner made contact with catcher and malisouly did... i was more worried about catcher so i never ejected... the player... my parnter did... though and i thank him for it
We'll a girl brawl would be pretty funny considering how bad 95% of girls are a fighting. Their one move Is pulling the hair while calling the other a girl a "hoe" or "whore" ore "bitch"
+Dennis Hogel e-mail the superintendent he is just as rude and disgusting person. he made fun of my spelling/grammar and called my e-mail stupid and to come down to the school area he was... i replied telling him he wasn't qualified for his job to speak like that
+Dennis Hogel The slide was legal and just a tough play. She was sliding to break up the double play, she could still reach the plate easily, and did her job. Nothing dirty at all there. The elbows, though - beyond bad sportsmanship, a direct rules violation as well.
Dennis, I thought the same thing. The Needville team was coached that way. Three dirty plays ain't a coincidence. Somebody could've really gotten hurt badly. Despicable.
