Tombstoning in Plymouth
Young kid tombstoning into Plymouth Sound. About 65 foot drop. I filmed this today.
Like I said, to each there own. I know many people, including myself, who
have done it and not ended up in a wheelchair. My condolences go to your
friend, but it still doesn't change my opinion. Just because he injured
himself it doesn't mean everyone else will. The people who injure
themselves are a small percentage of the people that do this. More people
are injured skydiving, but you don't see people complaining about that, do
you?
OK folks, I guess we've established that I over estimated the height!
Whatever it is, when you stand there and look down, its a fair drop! In
response to lewisbaymanlewis's emailed question, I was filming the kids as
I live in Plymouth and was just having a stroll with the family and
relatives and saw this and thought it would be good to film and put up on
hear for other like-minded folks to view. Why?
Yup, but I also know hundreds of people that have done it and DONT get
hurt! I also know numerous people that have been hit by vehicles crossing
the road etc and ended up in wheelchairs so do you recommend not crossing
the road?! Its a dangerous world we live in, but if you take care, you'll
be ok, generally.
@teambrucewillis The practice of jumping into the sea or similar body of
water from a cliff or other high point such that the jumper enters the
water vertically straight, like a tombstone. The term 'tombstoning' is more
commonly used in the UK and Europe than in North America. Hope this help?
yeah I know someone who did that you know where he is now? sitting in a
wheel chair, being fed mash by a nurse. just because you didn't injure
yourself doesn't mean other people wont. By saying 'Nice one' that is
actually positive language which your commenting about tombstoning.
hmmm so this proves that nobody understands what tombstoning is.....you put
you hands on sholders so your arms are across your chest (like they where
in egyptian tombstones) and you just sort of fall strait off head first
this is just jumping in and it takes no balls AT ALL!
Lads have been jumping off these rocks for years, we used to do it when we
knocked around the hoe in the 80's. It's part of growing up and letting
your mates know you have bottle. Oh and usually the higher the cliff, the
better looking chick you had.
I timed the jump, it was roughly 1.8 seconds. If we assume his was airborne
for 1.8 seconds, exactly, then using the equation, t=SQRT(2h/g), then that
jump was 15.8922 metres (52.44426 feet). Still pretty impressive, though.
@t4tvs 59ft. I said 52... Not too bad... Like you said, you have to allow
for tides. Also, my calculations were based off him going directly down,
whilst the guy in this video runs out a bit... Pretty interesting though.
@tireoghain1V yeah i kinda feel like a tit cause i did that jump after
writing the comment and its fucking huge, a bigger one in plymouth is blue
box the left hand side of laira bridge its a sortof crane structure
Actually sky diving is not a recommended activity to participate in. All im
saying is instead of saying nice one or whatever, just ask because that is
positive language. That boy could have fallen on those rocks.
If you had read my comments, numbnuts, you would have known that these are
not friends etc of mine, I just filmed them as I was walking past! If you
aint got a worthwhile comment, dont bother making one, waster!!
Have you read the stories of the multiple kids who our now in wheelchairs
as a result. There is plenty of other things we can do that don't involve
jumping of cliffs that have the same adrenaline action.
this is ABOUT 10 meteres wich is 30-34 ftish you'll hit the water at 40mph
needed about 8-9ft to go down before returning, and ive done this jump its
the biggest ive ever done/probally will ever do
@ConnorFergusonRules 80ft would give you 2.2 seconds of airtime, assuming
you dropped straight down... To get 4 seconds of airtime, would require you
to fall from 258.984 feet... So... Yeah...
Brilliant, you did well, kiddo. Ignore the 'tards who post negative stuff
about it. Its deep enough, clear enough and straight down so nowt to worry
about (apart from the height, obviously!!)
My thoughts exactly! They werent hurting anyone (including themselves) so
whats the problem?
