Of all the cars shown here the only two that still work perfectly after all
these years and one can still see some of them on the road are the Clio and
the Corsa.
+Brook Smith It never breaks down. I tried my hardest to break it, and I couldn't. One morning it just didn't start, I checked the oil and it was as thick as asphalt. I sold it to a garage for 300quid, only 50 quid loss.
+Brook Smith I had an 1998 Micra and it was a delight. I bought it for 350 quid, 15000 miles with no oil, filter...etc change, and it was fast like hell.
+Brook SmithI do agree that in a general way french cars aren't the best but the Clio's Energy engine does seem to pass the test of time. It wasn't the fastest car in it's day but the engine was somewhat powerful (binary values).
+Daniel T. ARE YOU ON DRUGS... I can't remember the last time I seen a MK 1 Clio on the road.. You still see loads of these "Bubble" Nissan Micras on the road even though it was over 13 Years since the last one was made. They were super reliable and the engines FOR THE TIME were way ahead of the rivals. French cars are awful..Nuff said
+Daniel T. Are you serious? Im struggling to remember the last time I saw a mk1 Clio on the road...I see loads of this shape of Micra still about though. Very seldom see any of the others, except for maybe the Corsa. The Uno, AX and Fiesta will have turned to a pile of brown dust many moons ago by now.
+Daniel T. The most common of these now where I am in the UK would be the Corsa, then the Micra and probably the Clio after that. You rarely see an old 106, AX or a Metro, and you pretty much never see any of the rest in general use.
+Bumper3D You're right. When it snows they put salt on some roads to help melting the snow and avoid formation of ice and cars who are poorly built suffer even more from rust.
+Daniel T. In Finland, the land of old cars, you see plenty of 106's, Micras, Corsas and the odd Clio every now and then. You would probably see more Micras and Corsas if they weren't so prone to rusting.
+Darwinion helloooooooo, look at the year, it does look smart and authentic for that age. you can not take today's point of view which makes it only old jap car....
BBC top Gear UK Classic episode Ford Probe Review 1992
This is from 1992 and Jezzer is still wearing the same clothes :))))
I loved the ford probe i saw loads of them about when i was 12 it wasnt
until i got a few years older i realised it was a total flop and never saw
it again. I suppose that would make it unique to drive i've heard a lot of
them ended up on the scrap if you find one mint snap it up. The ford probe
was really ahead of its time in 1992 its looks and styling were out of this
world but fords decision to put a mazda v6 engine into it proved to be an
ultimate disaster. My mates dad had one and the insurance was really high
if the engine broke down it was expensive to get it fixed so it didnt even
have the success of the ford capri which was a shame
Clarkson is being a fucking idiot discounting the 325i coupe because it is
not a coupe. Erm the boot is completely different, the doors have frameless
windows and completely different engine mapping and suspension/dampers. But
oh no because the dumb shit doesn't like beemers the best coupe is
excluded. How do I know? Because I bought a 2 year old VANOS-II BMW 325i
coupe and it was the best early 90s car I have ever driven, and the most
reliable (unlike all the fords and vauxhalls I have ever owned). What a
twat :)
+Samuel Copperwood i didnt say it...Someone else had top comment saying it...And if it "just so happens" that you said it too , why is there ";" exactly the same as the top comment. You copy pasted it
JAP = the JA Prestwich Industries engine, which was used a lot in Morgans early days.
Top Gear 10e06s 1\4
Review: Clarkson tests the BMW 535d four-door sedan, the first diesel car to be brought to the Top Gear test track. He finds that, compared to the petrol variant, ...
I own the 530d m-sport and love it,best car I've owned so far and I've
owned a lot including other BMWs,Audi,Toyota supra, golfs,land-rovers etc (
over a hundred cars in 18 years lol), just can't fault it :-),handles
great, goes like stink and still has great economy and comfort with every
toy you could ever want...
@Seattlecarnut Yeah, the best you can get in the states so far is the 335d.
Has the same engine as the 535d, gets around 2-4 mpg more as well. It's a
shame the diesel fuel is more expensive there though, but then we here pay
$7.50 / gallon for both Premium and Diesel.
@Seattlecarnut My friend's got a 530d. He drives it REALLY hard. 0-60 is
around 6.5 seconds. He gets an average of 25mpg... That's REALLY good
considering he had an average of 16mpg in his 525i...
