Not in Africa. Have you noticed that the countries with booming populations are the ones that are growing? Uganda and Nigeria for example. Nigeria's population is expected to quadruple by 2050 going from 174 million to 440 million. And Africa as a whole to double. In Africa it is better to be a big country, notice how the smaller ones have conflicts? But perhaps i am relating correlation for causation when that is not the case?
Can't developing countries *ever* figure out how to do things cleanly and
sustainably? Oh sure, they can ask the West for help, and then some
asshole will say that it is some new sort of colonialism.
+infinitecanadian I'm not long winded, I am articulate and thorough. When you make points i am sure to address each and every one individually and provide you with a correct and balanced reply. However you don't afford me the same courtesy, you just jump about from statement to statement. You are all opinion, not facts. Look how in your reply you do not address any of the points i have given, how sad. Don't worry about "fixing" Africa, According to the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund African countries have some the highest real GDP growth //www.worldbank.org/en/news/feature/2013/04/25/africa-s-growth-rate-ahead-of-other-regions-but-growth-must-lead-to-equalityThe only thing hampering that growth is instability. Not to mention that poor prospects in the West and better business ventures in Africa are seeing many educated migrants return home to start businesses. (This is known as a brain gain)//www.voanews.com/content/africa-brain-gain-thanks-to-growing-african-economies/1602881.html//www.bbc.co.uk/news/10173682//businessdayonline.com/2014/01/africa-is-on-the-verge-of-a-retail-boom/I should know because my Father is one. And i figure that after i complete University i might also do the same. " let them sort it out themselves." DUH! Isn't this what African leaders have been stating for years? As for Africa in 100 hundred years here is food for thought. In 100 years according to the UN 1 out of every 3 people will live in Africa.//www.newsecuritybeat.org/2011/06/one-in-three-people-will-live-in-sub-saharan-africa-in-2100-says-un/#.UvGkqPldXAk
+mrs.presidentBoy, you sure are long winded! Ever consider writing a book?Anyway, that's the thing: most countries' governments are too rife with corruption to consider even asking for help, and even if the West goes in to help, it doesn't seem to work with these people. I don't know how anyone is supposed to fix Africa. Maybe it's a lost cause and we should just leave Africa completely for 100 years. Oh sure, we can continue mining and fair trade, which might improve the lives of many, but otherwise we should almost just let them sort it out themselves. Even if we did, they would probably still be in the same situation after 100 years. Hopeless.
+infinitecanadian You do know that the Unicef and the UN peacekeepers cannot just go to any country and do as they please right? //www.un.org/en/peacekeeping/operations/peacekeeping.shtmlUN Peacekeeping is guided by three basic principles:Consent of the parties;Impartiality;Non-use of force except in self-defence and defence of the mandate. They cannot do anything in a country without the consent of that country and are not allowed to take sides in conflict. If a country is displeased with them they have the RIGHT to kick them out, tell me what colony had that right? There is a BIG difference between the UN and neo-colonialism so why would you relate the two? I have never heard of anyone relate the UN to colonialism however they have had related military interventions by the West to colonialism, in which the country has not consented and has no control over what the troops do.Canada practically invented peacekeeping as an alternative to this military intervention so how come you are so ill-informed regarding the power they actually have? The West are not the only peacekeepers, a couple of weeks ago three Indian peacekeepers were killed in South Sudan, most of the peacekeepers in African countries are from other African countries (Ugandan and Rwandan peacekeepers in Somalia for example). It's a global effort. " these countries seem incapable of being helped. Using knowledge gained from the West, other countries should be able to develop sustainably"How is that possible when the west itself did not develop sustainably? Or are you going to tell me that giant hole in the ozone layer was caused by the developing world? The reality is that development has a tried and tested pattern that all countries have followed. I mentioned it before in my other comment, it's called industrialization. All countries will industrialize (build factories, smog, and yes pollute) in order to develop. Perhaps the west has technology to ease the rate of pollution but as you have seen in Asia it is not economically viable option for many as these technologies are often expensive and polluting is much cheaper. The result is that most countries do not concern themselves with the condition of their natural landscapes until after they have already developed(case in point: every western nation now concerned with their ecological footprint.)As for mass corruption and war you will see that Africa will actually pollute MORE without those. Lets see if you can tell me why...
+mrs.presidentOh, really? What about U.N.I.C.E.F. or peacekeeping? That's the West trying to help, but unfortunately, these countries seem incapable of being helped. Using knowledge gained from the West, other countries should be able to develop sustainably, yet they can't due to mass corruption and war.
Umm no they can't! No country has developed and not polluted at the same time. Its, called industrialization, just look at the state of China's smog, water, and forest. Or the evolution of the peppered moths in the UK that we learn about in biology class here in Canada. For developing countries its a choice to make, protect nature or growth economically. Its easy to judge when your country is not the one making such sacrifices. There is nothing wrong with asking the west for help so as long as the west respects the limits Uganda places on their "help". When the west simply goes into a country and tries to help THEIR WAY without any consideration for what the people living their actually want, for example Afghanistan and Iraq then yes it is a form of colonialism.
All of us came from Africa, so if u got any prejudice about them, u r
prejudice about yourself ,and we should help them to get wealthy to at
least the average GDP of the world.
Africans already are getting a higher gdp than most countries without your help, get out of africa " western world" this time your not going to steal our resources.
+Kamran Assad No I am not mad at you, i pity you, your world is so dark and you have nothing to live for :( No hope, no happiness, you resent everything around and yet you are powerless to change it. Plus you live in Ireland. Indian horse hair? Lakeisha? LOL! What are you on about?
+afrrique He's not actually Arab, he's an Irish using a fake name. I don't know what it is that makes him too ashamed to use his real name, perhaps he's too much of a coward to stand behind his idiotic comments? His real life must not be very pleasant if his chosen form of escapism is to be a racists troll. But really, pay him no attention, the only harm an internet troll can do is to themselves.
Nor can pompous, condescending, narrow-minded genetics.
