Yea right. The old "free market" nonsense. Regardless the Plutocrats in
Wall Street and the Hill keep shipping white collar jobs over seas or
in-sourcing with cut rate H1B visa workers that undercut US high tech, high
skill jobs to the point of poverty. The free market mentality has only
consolidated wealth in the hands of a very few, typically the same ones
thought history. Many schools have over payed admin staff, I saw that first
hand at my school. Teachers get screwed on salary, typically.
There shouldn't even be federally subsidized student loans in the first
place! The higher interest rates become needed because of the government
intervention in the higher-ed market! Gov't spending (and therefore taxes)
only increase because of this. Since some debts (the student loan debt)
will never be paid off by every individual who was given a loan, the gov't
is forced into raising interest rates on future loans. If the gov't stopped
subsidizing the college industry, tuition would drop!
"Sen. Warren’s (0.75%) proposal should be quickly dismissed as a cheap
political gimmick. It proposes only a one-year change to the rate on one
kind of federal student loan, confuses market interest rates on long-term
loans (such as the 10-year Treasury rate) with the Federal Reserve’s
Discount Window (used to make short-term loans to banks), and does not
reflect the administrative costs and default risk that increase the costs
of the federal student loan program." Brookings May 10 2013
You don't understand. Universities raise tuition because the federally
backed loans (subsidies) guarantee that the colleges get the money. Biden
even admitted to this as unexpected as it may seem: /watch?v=YD4GuyAzF3Q
When the gov't intervenes in the higher-ed market it fosters the growth of
the situation you described. The universities and for-profit schools will
forever increase tuition because they know they can ring the tax payer dry,
and no one in gov't even wants to prevent it!
Why does education have to cost anything? . this is a joke.. all books and
information is as good as free..; And seriously which student goes to all
classes.. ? I spend my days drinking beers having fun .. never went to
school.. just did exams . So bottom line: no teacher or school was involved
in my learning process . Now i'm a developer consultant for SAP businesses.
Not once people asked for my diploma.
I wondered why they high schools were making college so available for our
kids. So they could be trapped by debt. Surely they know there's not enough
jobs available for these kids entering the workforce to pay back they money
they loaned them. What are they gonna say ooops... sorry. There is
something bigger and more sinister at hand.
I can hear many U_SA citizen crying, "free education and free health care
is evil communism". For me it seems the U_SA is the only country in the
world, where many poor people are for the polytricks of the superrich.
USA empire spends 30% of entire budget on Military industrial complex and
USA military bases abroad. Than they raise interest rates on students. WHY
they do not raise interest rates on Military industrial complex.
college should be free. govt stop spending so much money on wars and give
everybody that academically qualifies for an education free college. also,
trade college should be free too to anyone that wants one.

Student Loan Interest Rates DOUBLE
Are you a college student? Are you taking government subsidized loans? Then you're in trouble. Interest rates for federally subsidized Stafford student loans ...
I agree that tuition is ridiculous. The subsidized loans are pretty much
the same rates as regular loans nowadays, but you can at least still delay
payments. I am working on a teaching credential, but I am still $8,000+ in
debt and paying interest on it. In California, the UC system is absurdly
expensive compared to the aid they give you and in 2 years, I ended up with
$15,000+ in debt and I am just taking whatever work I can find.
I think this is crazy. I think the gov is subtly trying to dissuade people
from pursuing higher education. Why bother w grad school when the fact is
that you can even find a job after that. Think the only sensible way to
this is either by escaping America or create your niche. I dun see how this
is gonna help in the long run.
yay for me then, I'm going to culinary school! (I could also go for the
science and math stuff, but I have an obsession with food, food cultures,
and food history)
