@MrKalzonzin si mi hermano, el reglamento dice que el PIE debe estar en linea con el del ultimo defensor, en este caso. Respecto al penal, el defensor jamas toco el balon, que barrera haya actuado la caida es distinto, pero viendolo de una forma positivista, hubo falta porke el contacto con el jugador fue directo, el balon no estuvo de por medio. Aprende de fut, la mayoria que vemos el futbol, no solo el mundial, lo jugamos y se ve que tu eras de los ultimos ke escogian en el barrio. ;)

@briannewage Exacto, voy a celebrar el día en que la selección mexicana derrote a la selección argentina (ésta que está jugando tan bien), con un 2-0, porque si meten 3-0, los argentinos podrían pensar que su equipo falló en algo y que por eso ganaron, cuando la verdad es que México tiene la capacidad de derrotar a cualquier selección, no lo digo por ser mexicano, sino de un punto de vista objetivo, sólo hace falta concentración de parte de los jugadores.

@hugorocky Your interpretation of the offside law is wrong. The law doesnt say anything about the goalkeeper, but talks about the "last opponent in defence". If the striker is being given the ball with only ONE OPPONENT to beat, whether the goalkeeper or not...he is offside. In 99.9% of the time, the goali is the last opponent in defence, hence it is difficult for a lot of people to interprete what happened in that situation....because it was the defender and not the goali on the line.

Is your memory so short as to forget that in the initial phase of the qualifiers, Mexico had a difficult time beating noteworthy Central American teams like El Salvador and Honduras? Nevertheless, in that particular game, we had 90 000 fans behind us...with vuvuzelas (I need to mention this), something that u are not used to, and that gave us an advantage. Mexico should have sealed the game in the first half but failed to do so, which saw us coming back in the second half and creating chances of our own...including hitting the goal post in the 89th minute.

@hugorocky I was merely trying to simplify the rules for you. Steven Pienaar was THE LAST MAN OF DEFENCE when the ball was played to Vela...whats so difficult to understand? Please do yourself a favour...search for "offside rule" on google and make everybody's life easier. Vela was already 'in front' of the goaalkeeper when the ball was played to him, making Steven Pienaar the ONLY opponent (because the goalkeeper is already not there).

@hugorocky When the pass was delivered to Vela, the defender (Pienaar) was on the goal line...BUT, the goalkeeper was behind Vela, making Pienaar the only opponent to beat. Had there been another defender, or even the goalie at the goal line, then it would have been a goal. THE BALL CANNOT BE DELIVERED TO YOU WITH ONLY ONE "OPPONENT" TO BEAT. The word "Opponent", can mean the goalkeeper or any other player in that team.

@hugorocky Vela was offside!! Steven Pienaar was THE LAST LINE OF DEFENCE, meaning the goal keeper was ahead of him. Vela received the ball with only one man(Pienaar) in front of him, making him offside. You can easily translate it by saying Pienaar was acting as the goalkeeper....hence Vela was in an offside position. Stop accusing people of fixing games if you dont even know the rules of the game!!

@hugorocky Thats where you are wrong, the offside is not judged against the goalkeeper...but the LAST PLAYER of the defending team. The goalkeeper is on 99.9% of the time the LAST PLAYER of the defending team, maybe thats what is confusing a lot of people. It does not matter if its the goalie or any other player, as long as HE IS THE LAST PLAYER IN DEFENCE.

Clear offside postion by the Mexican player and met all the criteria for an easy and correct call to be made. Only a person ignorant of Law 11 would argue this after seeing the replay. The emotion during the game without the replay is an excuse for wanting a goal. But, after a cool head looks at the play, nobody can honestly dispute that the offside call was correct except for someone who doesn't know the LOTG.

Excellent call by the referee. As has been pointed out, the second last defender was the goal keeper. Vela did _not_ receive it directly from the corner kick because his team-mate headed it. Unpopular call, good call, and the right call. The ESPN guy needs to get on camera and start grovelling for forgiveness. He can stop sometime around the final match.

@mrchivas301 yes he would still be offside. the second to last opponent determines the offside line, the last opponent doesnt matter. think of it like this: if he's in closer to the goal than the last opponent then he is closer to the goal than the second to last opponent also, and therefore he is offside

It was not offside, because the ball hit the ball was headed off a South African player. The Mexican player kicked it, another Mexican headed it and it glanced off a South African player. Not offside.

@mrchivas301 Yes, he would be offside. He would still be closer to the goal than the second to last defender and the ball. The position of the last defender is irrelevant.

@araeisi it was offside. he was closer to the goal than both the ball and the second to last opponent (the keeper in this case) when the ball was played to him

There was a DEFENDER ON THE GOAL LINE!! I thought the rule was you couldn't be past the last defender minus the goalkeeper.
