Because the issue is complex and only applies to the US. There are over 400 million guns here so making them illegal won't make them vanish. Not to mention the flow from Mexico. Make them illegal the only people who would have guns in the criminals and the law abiding citizens will be defenseless. Israel, Sweden and Switzerland have gun owner rates as high as the U.S. but much lower murder rates.  In these countries a license to possess guns is available on demand to every law-abiding adult. There is also widespread carrying of concealed firearms.  More guns doesn't mean more gun crime

States with extremely high Concealed Carrry holders have incredibly low gun crime and low violent crime all together. Cities that are "gun free zones" ex. Chicago and DC have incredibly HIGH gun crime. Gun control doesn't work. Concealed carry works. You aren't going to rob someone if there is a greater chance they have a gun. Mass shootings happen in gun free zones. People don't go to police stations to commit a mass shooting. Hmm I wonder why. Read the article.

Even though it's happening in a restaurant, it's a street fight, war on a very small scale. The "rules" basically amount to "do what you have to do to leave the scene head up rather than feet first". If that means breaking a chair over some other combatant's head, well, there might be some abstract discussion later about whether that was really necessary. There also might be some elaborate debate in front of people wearing black robes and (in some countries) wigs about the boundaries of legitimate self-defence and whether that was within those boundaries. But all that comes a long long time after the relentlessly practical question of who leaves vertical has been decided.The only thing that's really solidly out of bounds is targeting innocent bystanders, or hurting them very seriously by accident.
