Mozart was christened~Johannes Chrysostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus Mozart,he added the Amadeus later. Fred MyOpinion,I think you are meaning Sussmayer, and he completed the Requiem, not this Mass(1782).Mozrt left this C Minor mass unfinished,he later reworked it in 1785, and added two arias and called it Davide Penitente. Gopman 64,Mozart was probably a very lukewarm Catholic, however in Mozart's time Catholicism and Freemasonry were not necessarily exclusive. The church was for outward public display, and the Masonic Lodge was for secret meetings. In those days Freemasonry was more about enlightened thinking.Even the Emperor Joseph II was rumoured to be a Mason, maybe that is why he looked so favourably on Mozart? Prince Phillip and the Duke of Kent are(openly) masonic,so who knows?

Theophilius is latinized Greek for "Love of God", Amadeus is just Latin or Italian "love of God".  Same as Gottlieb, in German.

Does anyone know the name of the soprano? I've never heard something quite like her before. I know it's silly but, for some reason, her voice makes me think of The lord of the rings.

I love her too! A beautiful mystery soprano.
