I've decided to add this beautiful song from mp3 record. See saryt22 and violinthief for video. THE LAST ROSE OF SUMMER (Thomas Moore) 'Tis the last rose ...
In the story line of the movie, her father (played by Charles Winninger)
asks her to sing this song so that he can tell her how bad she is. Knowing
what's coming, she puts everything that she has into it and sings the
finest version of this song that you will ever hear. I'm sure that
Winninger must have felt like a complete fool telling her that she was no
good. Earlier in the movie she sings the finest version of 'Invitation to
the Dance' and later the finest version 'Because' that you will ever hear.
Add to that that she also had the finest versions of 'Annie Laurie',
'Amapola', 'Begin the Beguine', 'Say a Prayer for the Boys Over There',
'Nessun Dorma', 'Silent Night' (the solo in 'Lady on a Train'), 'Goodbye
Forever' and 'Largo al Factotum'.
This song and this version never fails to really move me. For years its
been one of my favorites. To me the last rose of summer has other meanings
that u can attach, i think it is so meaningful and it has the power to take
u away from your day to day nonsense
What beauty in every way. There is hardly any point in describing it. I
wonder if anyone would agree with when i say that her voice reminds me a
little of Rosa Ponselle's, another fabulous singer. I think the "timbre"
and sound are similar.
Incredibly light soprano! The sound is incredible - you might call it
vintage. I just close my eyes when I listen to this and it took me to a
place in bygone era and think of playing this tune on an old gramophone!
@texasoperastar IT does not get ANY BETTER THAN THIS....NOT EVER! I WAS 16
YEARS OLD-FELL IN LOVE WITH HER- WENT TO MY PIANO AND PLAYED IT AS THOUGH
IT WAS DEANNA SINGING IT...ONE LIFE DOES TOUCH ANOTHER.
A beautiful song written in 1850 by Irish poet Thomas Moore, very sad to
see it being credited to Paddy Moloney (The Chieftains) at the end of
Michael Moore's film. Credit where credit is due!
I have never heard this song before. I know it is the first third of a poem
by thomas moore. I would think that this might not be all of the song if
she did not repeat the last two lines.
@bnr87 Yes, mee, too (Last Rose of Summer, Michael Moore)... the scene,
when Franklin D Roosevelt was buried... Beautiful Folk Song, let's keep us
some beautiful things in our hearts...
A touching ballad, full of emotion, that lifts us up over our mundane
cares, to another and better world, sung with tender feeling by a beautiful
lady. Thank you for posting.
She sounds like snow white but less pitchy and more soothing. If I used one
word to describe her appearance and her voice it would either be Perfect or
Angelic.
Best singer Hollywood ever had. Deanna saved Universal from bankruptcy.

Really loving this album! Not a fan of the screaming, but thats just my
taste. I don't listen to this kind of music often but OLN always has my
love! Songs like this are the reason for that!
"Talent is natural, not trained. Beyonce is just not talented" What kind of
stupid statement is that? Talent means skill, skills can be adquired. There
are people who have natural abilties, others develop them with practice,
but both MUST practice and polish their skills or it will never reach a
level of excellence and it's just a simple waste. How can you use Beyoncé's
training against her? And how having a perfected instrument like she does
means she doesn't have skills, or what it's the same, have talent? In what
universe Beyoncé isn't talented? She may not be your cup of tea, but to
make such an idiotic statement is beyond stupid. Beyoncé has a good voice,
which she worked on, to become the amazing vocalist she is. Doesn't working
hard, polishing, perfecting and mastering your instrument mean you love
what you do and that you are a real commited artist? It's not like she
became successful when she was 20 and stopped giving a fuck. She KEPT
WORKING and IMPROVING. She is a beast now. If to you that means she doesn't
have talent, then you are beyond imbecile. Also, it is not possible to be a
great singer without having anything to begin with.

Many claim the talented Etta James "made this song" that may be true, she
did it justice yet, I have to say this is, and will always be my favorite
recording of the song. :)
Wow. I'm always so blown away at the raw quality to these productions. It
resonates deeper than any other sessions I've seen. Even miles above NPR,
Audiotree, and KEXP
