They want more for used parts than new parts. They also pay far less for
scrap. I called for a starter on a 7.3 1990 desel, They wanted 140. A auto
parts store in crestview fl. wanted 138.. with a tear warranty,

Abandoned DL&W / Erie-Lackawanna Electric MU Commuter Car, Toledo, Ohio, 05.05.12
While on a trip to Toledo, Ohio to see the Amtrak 40th Anniversary Exhibit Train at Toledo Union Station, I took some time to explore the Toledo area's other ...
This is one of the motor cars, most of which were scrapped as you needed
3000 volts DC to run them. All of the trailer cars were sold to tourist
railroads. It would be nice to restore a power car, make up a train set
again and run them but you'd need overhead catenary and the voltage
mentioned above. This looks like someone started to do something with it. I
see a new brake hose in place and primer on parts of the body. It's in
terrible shape, so I'm not surprised that it's been scrapped as mentioned
below plus there isn't much you can do with the motor cars. These were new
in 1930 and in service until 1984. Trailing cars were converted from
existing steam-pulled coaches. A train set consisted of one motor car and
one trailing car. I see the headlight has also been removed from this one.
I can still hear the whine of their traction motors and sound of their
compressors. I doubt we'll ever see or hear them run again under their own
power.
The problem with the DL&W system from which this car and its brothers came was a 3000 volt DC electrical system installed to run them back in 1930 with Thomas Edison t the throttle of the first train to leave Hoboken. No electric trains run on voltage like that anymore. It would be difficult to run these again under their own power as you'd need to build an electrical system to accommodate them. I doubt anyone's going to bother with that. Fortunately, most of the trailing cars have survived on tourist railroads and now have the cinders of steam locomotives falling on their roofs once again just like prior to 1930.
+g bridgman Sadly, I fear you're right. Here in England nearly all old electric units are scrapped, as the elf'n'safety killjoys make it well nigh impossible to run one, even though the voltage is still the same.
