Above Ground Pool Bonding
Bonding the above ground swimming pool based on the current 2011 national electrical code, this is in New York State.

Great comment, Bonding the pool is a very important part of the
installation for a swimming pool, It's not only about filling a hole or
vessel with water, and the sooner the pool sales and installers all get
involved with passing on this important information to the customer, so
that permits if required could be secured and you know even if a permit is
not required, The Bonding should still be done on every swimming pool.
Every electrician with pool bonding experience can get your bonding and
power requirements completed so you can have many years of problem free
swimming.
Bonding requirements can be found in the national electrical code book as
well as electrical power and wiring methods to be used.
always check with your town or city, village etc. for any other additional
requirements that they may have, don't forget your pool alarm.

Why Bond? Great Question.
the number 8 is required to be 18-24 inches away from pool and 4-6 inches
deep,why that level? surface level stray voltage, which is it's intended
purpose to keep the walk around area of pool and the water on a equal plane
so that there is no voltage differential , which if you have a difference
of potential you have a shock hazard.
If someone is standing on the ground just outside the pool and puts hand in
water an accident could happen if there is a difference of potential, hope
this helps you to understand why this is code.
By the way Stray voltage really does exist!!!

Yeah I did almost the same set up but went vertical on the side and back of
the skimmer (instead of going around it) . Very informational. Every
inspector is different and every state is different. My inspector wanted
18-24 inches from pool wall, 6-12 inches deep for bonding (Even though in
the book it says 4-6 inches deep) So check with the inspector before
digging too little or too much. This guy did an awesome job!

Vince - Nice video. I just have a question - the pool rails and columns -
are they steel? Mine are resin, and the inspector I contacted said I need
the bonding ring, but I only need to bond the steel wall at the seam. Just
checking before I go do it wrong..

Our pool "experts" never mentioned a need for bonding or even a permit.
They were out to sell the pool and must have know about the permit
requirements, they just didn't tell us. Now years later, it's a lot more
work to properly to do the bonding.
