Well allstate sucked for me on a personal level it was boring and ms
sharkova didn't focus on important things like blending and DYNAMICS curse
those stupid tenor 2's behind me ruining the sound with their nasally wide
mouthed sound...Blastisimo is a dynamic level...not a lifestyle! Bottom
line is just cause you made state doesn't mean go out there and scream your
heart out till you lose your voice...o lux was one of the only good songs
that we performed. Because it was so difficult we spent a good amount of
time on it :( just really disappointed that this years state choir wasn't
as good as last year's
Haha I'm ready for pre area! Our region had phase 1 for Baritones this year and it actually helped! So far I'm first chair and I'm looking to keep that all the way to area! The Bach is way harder than jubilant song though. It's harder than anything all state has had to offer in a while. But man I feel like I've overcome the difficult part of learning it. Now I just have to fine tune it!
Wow, quick reply! And yeah, you're exactly right, all these people worked so hard to accomplish such a difficult feat of making all-state! It's such an incredible dream to sing with a large group of people your age with such a high caliber of talent! On another note, how're ya doing on the Bach? I'm real nervous about this one, but then again, I felt the same way about Jubilant song from last year! Hope to seeya again in the mixed choir!
+Raymond Alcantara the thing is, we only have like 3 1/2 days to rehearse together and so it's hard to come together and sing like a group, especially when you don't know 95% or more of the people in that choir. Plus, it's natural for people to have big egos and want to show off their voices. A lot of us want to be heard when yes that shouldn't be the priority. To the average listener the all state choir is a great group, and honestly, they are. We shouldn't be too concerned with something like this, we should just take in the moment and enjoy, because it goes by way too fast. You and I are fortunate to have multiple chances to make it, but there are so many who only make it once, if they do at all. So yea I see why you would want to address it, but at the same time you should take into account everything else.
Yes, we all forget that we're singing in a choir, not by ourselves. If everyone tries to sing like they would in a solo, it's not going to sound good, and the all-state recordings show that. There were songs that could have been so breathtaking, but instead it's all a mess of noise and not much dynamic contrast. The choir in this video knows how to handle this properly, notice how minimal the vibrato is? In any case, if I make the all-state choir again, I'll be sure to address this. Because all I want is the choir to sound amazing!
I could say the same about men's choir. Don't get me wrong they were ridiculously good and all, but it just didnt seem as good last year. But then again, both of those choirs had really good clinicians and songs last year, so it was hard to beat. Also i think part of it was that last year was my first year so the experience was so new and amazing and this year I kind of knew what to expect. The better you get the higher your expectations get and the harder it is to be amazed. I got chills so many times last year and i barely felt that this year. My journey to state also felt alot shorter and less difficult this year as a sophomore
+KraziNoobXbl No, i was a baritone last yeas as well.. Why do you think that? I made men's last year also, and I can safely say we were the real show stopper compared to mixed. :)
While the mixed choir is ridiculously amazing, I think many would agree that nothing beats a really good men's choir! :) I'm a baritone for the men's choir this year - the real deal! :P
