2008 Honda ST1300 - Sport Touring Motorcycle
After a momentous crossing of the Golden Gate, our S-T troop plodded forward on Highway-1, winding up the serpentine PCH toward Stimson Beach and Point ...
Way to go "Sporttourer1. and "Kaos3124". I love the name you use, Bunky".
LMAO Vibrating Shit ... I love it ... I have a dumb fuck neighbor who gets
his rocks off by cranking his Milwaukee Shit-Kicker early in the morning
(about 5:30). Sounds like a riding mower with no muffler, but he thinks it
sounds "Manly". WTF ?? People like him are a big reason for the Harley
hatred. It's not the bikes, it's the cock suckers who ride them & think
they're something special 'cause they "got a Harley".
IW calm down. I Support This country by paying my taxes. But what industry
is entirely pure american now adays? some parts that are put on a harley
are made in china or god knows were (electronic or electrical, and the
Vrods design was help in part by Porsche and i thinks its the only bike id
really consider buying from Harley since its the only one thats up to date
by them. Yes it is good to support some company's but only those that truly
deliver you a good product. V rod for instance.
IWlocal. I own a Harley, a triumph, and a Suzuki. And the worst of the
three is without a doubt the Harley. Not a bad bike by any stretch and I
still enjoy it but the fact remains it's the still the worst of the 3 in
almost every aspect. I recommend you go ride some other bikes and do your
research before you call Japanese or any other bikes crap. Oh and they
don't call Wisconsin "the shit state" (that right it's not the cheese state
in most places anymore) for nothing.
All brands have problems. Some straight off the show room floor. I've had
experience with with 2 Harley fat boys and honda gold wing, 2 magnas, 2 vtx
over the years and the ST now. I wasn't impressed with the 05 Harley since
it used oil straight off the show room floor. Better ride and handling with
the honda in general. Just my first hand experience. Yes my experience and
I will stand by it, IN GENERAL Honda makes a better quality product when
set next to Harley.
exactly....the only people who don't agree with this are the overly
patriotic, buy american people, who are more concerned with trailoring down
to bike week with a motorcycle that supports american workers...even though
a ton of the parts on the Harleys are made in Japan also. No
comparison....dads linkiage on electraglide just fell apart riding back
from daytona...stupid ass ball end design of it is made to wear out so you
have to buy new parts. Harleys suck.
Maybe it's more like pride in riding a US made product. With the 105th
coming this summer, I guess it's hard to envision thousands of proud Harley
owners riding throughout the city. I don't recall any Jap rallies where
people travel across the country to get together. Please explain all of
these twits who try to get their bikes to sound like Harleys. Your neighbor
is just an inconsiderate ass. He'd do it if he had a loud ricegrinder. Get
a clue!
@Pilot9r Thought it was interesting I have a friend that just about rear
ended someone because his clutch on his 08 Harley fell apart while riding.
Think he said what ever it was was back in the motor and not the adjustment
part on the outside. Another thing it was less than 5000 miles on the bike
just had been on the showroom floor that long until a few months back. I
would not be a happy Harly owner after something like that happend.
Overall, HD are bult more solidly (IMO). There was too much plastic on
Hondas, and, the engines on Hondas are too "whiny". Add to that I live in
Milwaukee - home of Harley, and, belong to Ironworkers' Local 8 who is also
very supportive of other American/Union made products. I worked on the
Harley Museum. As far as foreign bikes go, BMW makes a good one, but, I
still prefer Harley.
Let us know about the ones that stand out. My experience causes me to go
with the Honda, if your going to win a possible person over to Harley that
might be passing by your going to have to do better. Harley's will
sometimes use oil brand new, just a fact of Harley. Honda S.T. might have a
little wobble about them Not sure yet myself. May just be tire wear. Just a
fact of Honda.
I do have to admit that I preferred the handling of the family members 07
fatboy over the 06 honda vtx 1300. I liked the sixth gear of the fatboy and
seemed to do better at 60 and above than the vtx. If I ever look at the
cruiser styles again down the road I would most likely go with the fatboy.
Ever had experience with the v-rod? Well heading down the road on the Honda
S.T.
I've been riding since 1977...yeah I'm getting old(er). The ST is without a
doubt the best sport-TOURING bike around. It's weight makes it comfortable
and smooth is the name of the game in long distance touring. Sure, it
doesn't cut corners like the Yamaha or have brutal acceleration. Leave that
to the crotch rockets. This bike is for adults who ride...lots.
Not telling myself nothing, look next time your out and count the goldwings
and other Honda motorcycles. Junk products wont be around for long. Harley
in general isn't junk just get some years like the 05's that burn oil
straight out of the factory. Haven't seen that with a Honda product yet.
Personal experience and preference of rather having a Honda.
Its proven that Honda engine and reliability is IN GENERAL a whole lot
better than Harley Davidson. Proven with me having two Honda's (vtx 1300
and the ST). Family having Harley's brand new and less than 15,000 and
already burning a quart of oil between changing Honda's not burning a bit.
Personal experience comparing apple to apple. Year to year.
LMAO You want to me list every bike I've ridden or owned since my first one
in 1984 - and be specific about their quirks? (which was a Honda while I
was stationed at Ft. Bragg) How about you come over to the house and I'll
show you the photo albums - it'll save a month of typing. Then you can hop
on either the 07 Sportster or 2004 FatBoy.
I have owned a st1300 for five years now and I love the bike! Handles very
well and gets lots of looks. It has an 8 gallon tank so you can go 200
miles before having to refuel. Unless I find something better I will
probably end up getting a new St when I'm ready for a new bike. I have put
20,000 miles and it is still just like new!
That 6th gear is great. I'm not a huge fan of the V-rod. I prefer the
cruiser type bikes. I do like the concept of having the frame on the
outside of the bike (as something different)- but understand that it
totally reeks of Willie G. (got to meet him when we built the HD Museum -
really is a great guy) Ride safe.
2010 Oddball Sport-Touring Motorcycle Shootout: Ducati vs Honda vs Kawasaki
With an odd collection of three motorcycles we set out to answer the unanswerable: What bike do you really need for sport-touring? The Ducati Multistrada ...
I have a 2004 Kawasaki Concours ZG1000. Took it across the country. The
Kawasaki here doesn't have the fairing or hard bags. I put most of my stuff
in a waterproof bag strapped on the seat behind me, so, I COULD live
without the bags, but I liked the wind protection--lets me ride more in
spring and fall here in Wisconsin, too. Which of these bikes would be most
comfortable on a 1,000 mile day? Seat, wind protection, riding position,
ride comfort? Looking at them I'm thinking Honda.
@purockside There's a bunch of these highways in the Central California
foothills. This looks like it was shot on the 58 between SLO and
Bakersfield to me. There's also a really nice loop on the 33/166 between
Oxnard and Pismo that has similar stretches, if I recall. If you get off
the 5/99 and take the 101/1, there are countless highways to spend some
time on. Fabulous area.
Sport tour seems to be only two of the bikes? And you guys could have
filmed it better, ie a quieter place? Kawasaki is going to cost less it
doesn't belong in this test! You guys just train wreaked the test. The
Ducati will do anything the other bikes will do you should have compared it
to a BMW GS.
The Honda is a TOURER. The Ducati is an ENDURO-TOURER (although it opens
its own new category). And the Kawasaki is a BIG NAKED. What on Earth could
be the common criteria, on which you could organize a shootout between
these bikes other than the fact that they have two wheels?? No hatred,
just...
The Kawi was 10g less because it had no accessories. Add accessories like
the other 2 and its a minor 3000 difference if you were to load it up. and
the price difference is noticeable. The Kawi has no features to compare to
the Ducati or the Honda.
Sport Touring should be the best of those two worlds. Comfort in distance
and performance in the twist. Plus an oversized tank to go further and
plenty of storage for days long trips. I think this test missed the point.
