Cool video. There's a theory that the universe as scientists know (around 90 billion light years across) is measured by only the stellar bodies that we can detect, mostly from giving off light, and that the full universe is billions of times larger than that, mostly being empty space. So, if that impossibly gigantic mind boggling universe as we know, was a quarter, the full one would be the size of the Earth. People have always looked up at the night's sky. Some found God there, others Science. Whatever *you* hope to see, just look up. Up at the stars. Stars so close it seems that we could almost catch them, and yet, they're further out than any human mind can comprehend... It's all, ALL of it - Religion, Science, EVERYTHING - Up above. Up there. how so is this universe finely tuned to consciousness? This universe has nothing to do with the existence of it, thats what scientist are puzzling over.? where does it come from? how can mass produce intangible "things" such as ideas and consciousness? these are questions far more transcendental than colliding comets.... you can't mix these two... at least not unil we fully understand consciousness.

heh I agree, I think the vastness of the universe and the just...sheer size of it all alone shows that there has to be more...and to be shows there is no god out there. Least no christian one, so much that most humans have never seen, so many events that couldn't have happened in just 6000 years, and would be creating false ideas...

observation of reality and perception are a product of consciousness which this universe is finely tuned to accomodate. As for comets colliding with planets then these do so according to finely balanced laws which at the same time allow us to exist in this universe. I will leave whatever comments I so wish here thank you.

NASA has plans to have a functioning space colony on the moon by 2025, and thats only 13 years away. It's kind of a while from now, but at least we're one step closer to finally reaching this goal. :) Personally, I think Gene Roddenberry was a prophet in all of this, and his visions of the future are not too far off now.

I would like to say that I do not believe in God. I just do not believe he could create everything we see, and have not seen today. Sorry if I am offending anyone, but he just isn't...real in my eyes. I believe there is a spirit for Harmony and a spirit for Chaos. A woman and a man ruling together to keep us in balance.

See how thats a spiral full of light at 2:23? I dont know if thats the universe but if you were to zoom in again. You will see more spirals inside that giant spiral. Those smaller spirals are SOLAR SYSTEMs? Its probaby another universe within a universe than the Solar System but thats how it works. Im not dragging religion into this.

Very good video, used it at the end of my Year 9 physics class on the subject. Great choice of music. The only minor complaint is about the video transitions. I think that it would have been better without them. From a teaching point of view, there is no reference to which part of the EM spectrum is being imaged for each picture but I covered the topic earlier so not a great problem.

hey i was reading your google groups question about GoDigital MG claiming copyright on public domain works. they did that too me too!!! but the work in question is actually copyrighted with the US Army Ceremonial Band. GoDigital assholes did not hold the copyright for the US Army. How did you resolve this?

Most of these pics aren't very recent. Most have been taken with the Hubble Space Telescope. These pics are certainly not fake, we more than have the means and technology to see 14 billion years in the past.

i would love to have a telescope powerful enough to see this. i would probably cry in the beauty.

+SameBasicRiff I've long maintained that the observed background radiation cannot be cosmic or universal, and we don't have data that proves that it is; it could be a local phenomenon.  Maybe our local system is immersed in a pool of 2.7C blackbody radiation and other places have different environs; we'd still see the same thing.  If the radiation were truly a cosmic phenomenon then it should have the same blackbody spectrum when Lorentz-transformed; I haven't worked it out, but it seems unlikely.A big problem in modern science, and especially in one so highly passively observational as astronomy, is that when theory A predicts property P and property P is observed, the theory A proponents tend to claim that their theory is proven by the evidence for P.  That's a well-known error in logic; if not-P were observed, it would prove not-A, but P does not prove A.  There could be a substantially different explanation, call it theory B, that also predicts P.The so-called "dark matter" and "dark energy" were recent inventions when the mainstream theory of evolution of the universe was found to predict a cosmological-constant that is a tremendous factor off from the "observed" value (really, calculated from fitting certain observations under certain assumptions).  There are a lot of assumptions, models, and theories assumed in interpreting astronomical observations, and often some of them turn out to be wrong.  For example, I've seen the announced "size of the universe" change by a substantial amount several times.

+Niosus good point! although playing devils advocate i would say that the model for predictions is what could be misinterpreted. in that sense, an example would be the model of an atom. It was predicted, then "confirmed", however years later the "confirmed" model was incomplete. improper. it needed a change. and so another model, based on the old one came about, and i expect the same to happen in the future with a lot of things. numbers can easily be manipulated in strange ways that may not be correct. for example infinity can be shown to equal -1/12. but is it? It hard to say what my intuition is feeling, and again, i could be (and probably am) absolutely wrong. But these uncreative old scientist types who are completely against any psychedelic experiences, or are super pro establishment, dont strike me as having the completely unified mind capable of understanding a completely unified universe.I guess ive just been watching to many nassim haramein videos and reading up on the "debunked" birkeland current theories. (although one wonders why, if opposites attract and like charges repel, protons clump together, and electrons dont fall into the nucleus. Or how massive black holes can eject gigantic streams of particles when their gravity is supposed to bend light........ again, dont take me seriously)  

+SameBasicRiff The scientists are pretty certain because they don't just look at data and come up with a conclusion. What they actually do is PREDICT the data from the current theories and check if observations match it. Making the right prediction doesn't mean your theory is right, but doing so time and time again is a very good indicator.It's the prediction part that so important. Making a precise prediction beforehand prevents you from coming up with ad-hoc explanations after the fact. This means that there is very little room for misinterpretation if everything is done correctly.

Why does the universe exist? I NEED someone from another universe to come here and tell me to chill the fuck out, this shit is driving me crazy (i dont mean cuz of the video or anything)... Okay someone who knows astronomy tell me whats up about this though im having, I am THINKING That Universes Come and go. Like how black holes are formed. When stars implode or whatever, and when billions of stars implode they become one big black hole. Now what if So many Stars did this that a black hole...

How about that false belief hinders scientific progress. How about that billions of dollars go through tax exempt churches. How about the popular belief that you hold that "death is not preventable" thereby obliterating our chances of solving it. How about blind faith causing passive and inneffective prayer rather than active involvement in solving problems. I could go on and on, but considering the text limit for YouTube comments, I'll just say that enough has been said... for now.

I'm ok with people assuming that about me, because it's pretty much true. I'm not just an atheist, I'm an anti-theist. I despise religion. However, I do not have to respect religion in order to respect its followers. It is really incredible how many same minded people as myself I can find on youtube. This is a sanctuary of atheists. Yes, when it comes to religious questions, I, as well, answer in the same fashion, and, often, have the same characters limit problem. Like you said, too many prayers, too few doers.

@aemz120 Focus - thats it. These wonderful pictures are there because some people had the focus to make lences with good focus. Thats science, hard working science - then everybody else want to take credit for it - that maybe not be pure evil - but it is not good either...

It just shows how good my book, The Lighthouse Bubble must be. It took me a long time to write because i did it in very close rhyming verse but i think it gets rather scary in places but funny in others and i think amazon have done a good job of selling copies of the book.

Most of the great scientific discoveries weren't achieved by physics and maths alone. Usually the people were somewhat enlightened, and had the ideas of how things worked before they proved them scientifically. Faraday wasn't even trained in science.

Its impossible to be religion because light travels at lightspeed and fr example #9 "114 million light years away" that means the light we see has been travelling for 114million years but the bible states that god made the universe 2011 years ago.
