But Google maps off line is limited to relatively small area downloads, so several adjacent areas have to be downloaded separately to cover a wider area, and the last time I tried it, those downloaded areas expired after about 30 days, so the the whole process had to be done again. Just imagine how long this would take every month if someone wanted to cover the whole of the UK. I have now subscribed to Sygic, and the downloads are easy, regular, automatic, and complete, and until Google maps offline can do the same, I will be sticking with Sygic.

+Gavin Giltbrook You should be able to download 1 full map of the uk as long as you have enough storage space. you need to update the maps every 30 days however this is just an update and not a complete map download. This helps to ensure that new roads and long term road works and business address changes can be incorporated into the maps. This and the straight forward search for all makes it incorporate seamlessly into the android build. this is what i like most. its no messing about, just open the phone and enter my destination. so simple and 100% freeware. Sygic is a very good navigation software however i don't think they can compete for long against the might of google and especially when google is free.
