My number one concern with this is safety. They're going to have to do a very good job of convincing me that walking into their field of radiation is safe.

It's more about the amount of energy it will be transferring to your body, ie. the SAR level. Cellphones are not allowed to exceed a certain SAR, so I would hope that this technology is regulated in a similar way.

as far as I know, these new wireless charging technologies use the same frequencies as WiFi, so they're about as likely to give you cancer as walking into a Starbucks

Cool it, man. You'll get used to Huawei when it becomes a top-notch smartphone company. By that time you'll probably forget all about Samsung, Sony, LG, HTC, Nexus or even Apple.  Names like Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo, OnePlus, Vivo, Meizu wiill be much talked about. Yes, Lenovo too who has been the top PC maker in the world for years now. And yes, it's all about mindset, whether it's open to new things or shut forever as the world passes these people by.
