//cnet.co/ZbrpBU Yahoo's CEO Marissa Mayer unveils an update to the company's Flickr photo-sharing site. Among the changes are a redesign with larger ...
I have given the new Flickr a chance, and may I be the first to say that
not all of us have 1GB fiber optic or LTE download speeds available at our
homes to support the new search! I loved the older format, and no matter
what internet connection you had, excluding dial up, if worked
great...that's my biggest complaint. I hate the new home page...I loved how
I could just go to the main page to see my activity...now I gotta hover
over and click three different times (cry me a river, you think).
Um, Mrs. Mayer Flickr was NOT about photos! it was about a community! We
liked the comments and the info on the photos, If this is her idea of
"AWESOME" I hate to see whats next! A bandwidth hog & on day one was very
slow! This is the result of people not understand what those who made flikr
liked. Now flickr will be a wasteland of photos that have no purpose or
meaning. Flickr was about that information YOU thought was pointless! I
made my frirst DSLR purchase based on what I saw on flickr.
Flickr yesterday was easy, intuitive, gave a nice balance between showing
photographs - which could go full screen even then, & the comments & social
side of it was well balanced. Now? It's a succession of identical looking
pages - except those riddled with bugs leave you watching the Flickr
coloured balls revolving endlessly. Great example of marketing morons who
know NOTHING about photography given crazy redesign powers. The Tbyte thing
= total red herring. This Pro user won't be renewing.
Sorry Marissa, I can't find anything, the search function is pants - what
about people who have the same name?, before I could search on faces if
necessary now I get every 'John Smith' and his wife's uploads. Oh, and the
'Advanced Search' is no such thing by the way. The new picture resolution
is great but where Flickr wins over P-Bucket is that it shows comments,
technical details, mapping etc., some of us like the in depth info, it's
not all about looking at the pretty pictures ya know :(
Best photography site in the world. GONE! A photography site, amazingly
enough should be about photography and not about how cool it looks on an
iphone.. It takes forever to even load on a PC , you have to wait then
scroll down; then repeat; then wait, then repeat. The beauty that is in a
photograph is rapidly vanishing with any serious photographer off to
pastures new. Any internet site that is rapidly losing its best
content, best contributors and best artists should be ringing alarm bells.
Flickr has now been dumbed down to the lowest common denominator. The home
page is a mess, the interface is slow, and they've degraded the social
aspect of the site, which was one of the main things that separated Flickr
from other sites. It's NOT all about the photographs now. It was before. I
wonder if Melissa and these clowns actually used Flickr in the past. It
appears to be just about making Flickr a dumping ground for crap. Oh well,
I guess this will make them more money.
If you share pictures online and care about quality you know photos on
Facebook look like CRAP! that's because they compress the files that you
upload, most photo sharing sites do.As a photographer that's all I care
about, QUALITY. As for the layout I couldn't careless, heck I was happy
with the "early 2000s" look. If I want control over the layout I'd make my
own website to display my photos exactly the way I want. Flickr is the best
site for storing and sharing pictures PERIOD
Dear stupid CEO, Flickr wasn't a brand, it was a community. And you ruined
it. We get it, you were jealous of facebook, tumblr and google images, so
you created an unholy union of them. The reason people used flickr was
because it wasn't facebook or google+. As a paying customer, I am not
happy. No consultation, no options. How would you like it if I came to your
home, rearranged the furniture and threw out the things you liked.
Flickr has been murdered. Unless you have a fast connection all you see is
the damn white screen because it is loading all these high res images on
one page. So stupid. And to not give those the option to switch who have
been paying to use this site...bullshit. The way I organized my page is now
changed by some automatic sorting. Big brother takeover 101. Shame on you
Yahoo, Flickr, and all associated with this decision.
Flickr - I'm done with what they think is "awesome". I've also moved to
Ipernity.com for photo sharing. Marissa Mayer has wrenched the life from
Flickr, she should have a look at these statistics... (no web address
allowed by YouTube?) go to Alexa.com - do a search for Flickr.com look for
the graph at Alexa re: Flickr - traffic ranks are dropping fast. ↓ ↓ ↓ I
suppose their ad revenue will also be dropping fast.
Also, to the others saying Flickr was about the community, you guys are
right! I. started posting retail pics because other people like me were out
there, and I've had the pleasure of meeting them in person! It is important
to focus on the pictures, but its also important to focus on the
photographers BEHIND the photos...not an overcooked black background with
no information about the photo...please fix!
yes about 11,000 on just one of the forums this not user friendly and your
correct but its a cheap copy that doesn't work. Yahoo's CEO Marissa Mayer
has a 19 iPhone pic's might be ok for that i have over 500 and it is
impossible for someone now too quickly check out my site too see if there
is anything interesting for them now there many user's with 10's of
thousands pointless with this UI now

Yes, it resembles Facebook and that is exactly what it will become,
only...there already is a Facebook. Flickr WAS about photography. No more.
The new look distorts and tweeks your photos in ways that do not resemble
what you created. If you are the kind of person that wants a computer doing
your artwork for you, then enjoy. Photographers are leaving this piece of
junk.
1TB sounds good but wait, there's a catch. A big catch. There is a
bandwidth limit of 300mb PER MONTH! As has been pointed out elsewhere, to
fully make use of your 'awesome' free space it will take you about 280
years to upload at 300 mb/month. So its more BS in effect designed to look
good when in fact, its as irrelivent as Boswellox
1TB is awesome. Millions slam Facebook each time they change something but
we all get used to it in the end. Same with this—If you don't own the site
then you gotta work with what they give you. And it just launched; I'm sure
they'll settle the kinks out soon enough. In the mean time, I'm still using
Flickr.
just ruined a perfectly serviceable site ...i work for a top ten uk
business and our policy is now to keep and encourage returns from our
existing customer base ...flickr in this format has overnight alienated and
lost most of its most loyal customer...ooopppsss...who came up with that
bright idea!
This is interesting. I am not sure how I like the fact that there is no
information with the photos. I'll have to go and check out how easy it is
to see the information. If everyone gets 1TB and full res then what extra
is there for the actual paying subscriber? I am going to have to
investigate.
Shocking. Failure has been grasped from the jaws of victory. It would seem
to me that they are trying to "dump" the serious photographers that hold
Pro memberships. I will give it a few days to sort it. I have 16,000 plus
images on Flickr but I do not want them displayed l like this.
The new Flickr format is awful - 1000s are complaining on their forums.
They have taken a simple easy to use site and made it in your face and
absolutely not what a large number of photographers want. They should at
the very least bring in an option to use the old format.
How the hell is it not about photography anymore? Photos are now uploaded
in their original quality, tons of wasted space is gone, and the photo
viewer puts the picture first. And you're saying Flickr is not about
photography anymore? Get the fuck out of here.
I don't know why people hate the new layout of Flickr. The old layout is
already old. Although I often upload photos on Facebook, I upload most of
my photos my Flickr. Flickr is your place for photos, but Facebook is just
for you share some of them.
viewing photos on flickr was not just about viewing photos. it was about
connecting with people. discovering new ways to shoot photos by seeing
peoples exif info. now its buried, to see where something was shot by the
geotagging. now thats buried.
What a terrible new design. I used to to be able to look at thumbnails of
my pictures and decide which one to look at. Now I have to scroll down and
down to find what I want. It was simple and fast to use, now it's
complicated and slow.
The new Flickr is total garbage, and I'm really thinking about leaving.
This woman is going to be the final blow to Yahoo! I love the old look,
they should really bring it back, and no more pro? Stupid, but at least I
can still renew.
