As a lightweight os, and for someone that really doesn't do anything but go
online, chromebooks are actually not that bad. The whole idea behind the
chromebook was to make a cheap laptop for people that JUST need to go
online and for a student to take notes or work on essays and it does great
in those areas. On the Stream side, yes, it is a better laptop, but not in
many more areas than the chromebook was made for. I personally love my
chromebook, but I also have a windows pc for everything other than small
school stuff and watching movies and videos.
+LinusTechTips $400 for a machine that plays games at 900p+? How is that
crap? As a PC fan, I've seen so many "Console crushers" but they cost more
and and do less. My old desktop cost $400 and couldn't do sh** besides surf
the web. Yes you could build a better one but not everyone has the ability
to and woulod it really play at 900p?
//pcpartpicker.com/p/nb24GX Add in the cost for a year subscription and it balances out. This PC is more powerful than the PS4 and xbox one. You would save cash on games and the subscription.
I see your point and completely agree that paying to play online does add a huge amount to the cost of the experience! Luckily I'm in a favourable position but even though it does cost about one new game it shouldn't at all. The PC is more powerful and long term wise cheaper depending on how you use it but you can't complain about not getting 1080p on $400 hardware which earns revenue for sony.Consoles can't suck just because they can't do 1080p. Yes even though both Sony and MS stated it would (and still do). Thanks for the discussion!
+Snehin KUKREJA Of course, I'm just saying that comparing the hardware for the price directly isn't very accurate.Fair enough, but I was assuming that most people who buy consoles / build gaming PCs also wanna play online. The comparison was done mainly because on the PC you do not ahve to pay for online services, and companies still manage to get up servers, many allow people to host servers themselves, which is completetly out of the question for consoles.
Well, the PS4 isn't worth 400$ in terms of hardware, if it's anything like the older consoles, I'd guess their value at around 500-550$. And at that price, excluding a Windows license, you could build a good PC that would outperform a current-gen console. Also, you need to take into consideration that consoles have a bunch of long-time costs linked to them: Playing games online requires to PAY a subscription, even on the PS4 now, games are without an exception more expensive on consoles as Sony and Microsoft take a cut to finance their consoles, and there are fewer sales than there are for PC games (Steam sales, to name a big one).Overall, you spend less on the console initially, but more as you go and buy a few games. Also, you have the same hardware for the next 6 or 7 years, while on the PC you have the option to upgrade certain parts of your rig. And contrary to popular belief, you don't spend a thousand bucks on your PC every 3 years ...
If I only have $400 to spend, are there any decent laptop at that price
point? or should i just get a powerful tablet, like the nvidia shield
tablet? :/
+RedDragonGamingHD Any suggestions? I was thinking about the Chromebook 2 because it has a beautiful 13'' screen. I would prefer big 1080p screens over 7'' 4k screens. lol
+xKen I suppose if you really want it you can go for it, personally Chrome OS isn't for me since so many apps/extensions aren't supported and if you're purely looking for a cheap media consuming/work experience I'd rather pick up a tablet for less.
+xKen I wouldn't get a Chromebook mainly due to codec issues like they mentioned, but something like a cheap Windows 8 tablet would be better especially if it's full Windows. Perhaps the Slate laptops will be for you.
Well not really for gaming if talking about laptop/chromebook..obviously lol I have a desktop for that. But more for movie watching/school stuff. I'm thinking of the toshiba chromebook 2.
